Hi,

after swapping my pentas mk2's for a pair of beolab 6000's, I feel a little underwhelmed with the performance i get from them!

I am thinking of either swapping for a pair of beolab 8000's or getting my hands on a beolab 2to provide the depth!!

Whats your thoughts??

Not surprised! Pentas are in my opinion far superior to 6000s. I prefer them to 8000s as well. I don't think a 2 will add what you want really. Not sure what to advise as the only speaker I would swap to from my Pentas would be 5s.

People dismiss the 6000Nicko.....  Beolab 2 is not so good for music.

Get a beolab 11 which is musical, and the sound will absolutely cane the 8000's.

Had them both.

Both subs cut out all the mid and deep bass (non existent in 6000's) and truly make them sing.

Trust me!!  Woof!!

Hi

I know someone who is in love with pentas (he owns several pairs mk2 mk3). He bought recently a beolab 2 and use it with his bl6000.

He told me that it was a perfect match. The beolab 6000 were absolutely not the same.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

Agree with Rex.

I never liked the BL6000 soundwise, but I then heard a system with BL6000/BL11....

thanks for the comments guys...

I knew it was going to be a step down in terms of sound, but after having the lounge redecorated I wanted the speakers to be less imposing. The size for them is lots better and beolab 8000's aren't loads bigger.

Thanks Nick

I was never impressed with the 6000's. Owned them for under 6 months. Traded them in against BL3's. The 6000's for me were very mid-range. I wouldn't add a BL2 though.

Why not move to 9's? Or 3's with a BL11? I can't really fault my BL3/BL11 combo, having owned a 7.2, 7.4, 6000s, 3's, 9's and 5's.

Moxxey.  I think it depends on the room.  I have heard them sounding like absolute rubbish, then in a different set up, fantastic.  They sound better than 8000's (with the 11) in my opinion.  Each to their own.

That is my grandfather - also called Peter. Another picture, this time painted at the time of the First World War!

He was from New Zealand but settled in the UK and became a surgeon. He worked in Manchester and was quite a chap. He died young and was remembered by the hospital commissioning Lowry to paint a picture in his honour. It has been in the recent Lowry exhibition - the doctor pictured in it is supposed to be my father. You can see it on the BBC website if you search for the Ancoats Outpatient Hall.

I know this is not a political blog, but these things MUST be talked about.

At the pub maybe... here isn't the right place. It's nothing to do with the thread topic, nor the forum topic.

I believe Nick was asking for opinions on certain B&O speakers, not opinions in general.
