I gave our 2006 MX 4200 to my brother , who had tried to switch it on without knowing the pin code and it asked for it once . Now it says "wait" then goes to standby. It used to be on a motorised stand but isn't now. Would this make a difference?

The stand shouldn't make a difference.....

Do not disconnect it from the mains!  When leave it turned on showing Wait and it will allow you to enter the pin after three hours, it stops people making multiple attempts trying to guess the code.

He has disconnected it from the mains since and now the TV does not ask for the Pin but goes straight to standby.

Update. Spoke to dealer who said to not disconnect after unsuccessful attempt ,which was done, but leave it plugged for 4 hrs when reconnecting for next attempt with pin . Hopefully he'll get it right this time!
