Are B&O turntables compatible with B&O cartridges only?

Yes* - but Soundsmith  have acquired permission to make them from B&O and supply both MMC20 and MMC1-5 types. They use more modern materials and have a more modern sound.

*The exception to the rule will be the very old turntables which could be fitted with different arms and headshells and could take whatever you wanted!!

Do the old ones include Beogram 1100? Also how do I clean a Beogram 7000CD. There seems to be a clear plastic cover over the laser lens. When I applied CD lens cleaner this cover thingy just went round with the circular motion of the cotton bud so I was unable to actually wipe it.

The 1100 takes the MMC20 type cartridge - in B&O terms, it is quite a new deck! I think you need a new capacitor in the CD player the lens in your photo looks pretty clean!

I put a CD in and with the top off I can see that the laser moves into position, the CD does a couple of quick spins then stops. Does that look like a capacitor problem?

Yes! Most likely but not definite. The first thing I would try would be to replace C2103 on the CD servo board with the correct 33uF or 47uF blue capacitor. (Search the Forum and the Achived Forum for C2103 and you will find a wealth of information).

I use these now:-
