My grey BL3 has developed over time a very fatty/sticky coating and when i try to remove it with water and soap it builds up into very mushy texture....i'm not sure if there is some protective coating on BL3 that is disentragting and i just need to work hard on trying to remove....anyone has had simillar problems?
Otherwise; is it possible to get the shell removed and paint it? I thought i had seen some posts on this in the past but i can't find it using search which is giving me 900 pages of results on BL3 and paint, cover etc....

Where on earth are you keeping those BeoLab 3's Klas? Are they in a kitchen, above a fat fryer?!!
I've honestly never seen that happen before to a BeoLab 3 coating unless a solvent has been involved.. If something has simply been splashed or spilt on them, we use a foaming cleanser (the same as people use to clean computer keyboards and screens) which tends to remove most things.
You can indeed get the cases repainted but they will need professionally shot-blasting first. After that, a good coat of etch primer then the paint.
If you want to save hassle though, what about a pair of white casings from B&O - brand new. These are painted and will wipe clean if anything gets on them with the minimum of fuss.

How much are new white shell's and does it take a PhD todo it myself?
From memory you'll be parting with around £300 for a new set of casings in white.
Easy to change? If you're fairly competent then they're not too difficult. Remember to do it in an anti-static environment though.
As i'm in almost the same situation, i hope its okay i hijack the thread..
I'm considering painting BL2 + BL3 white.
Do they really need glass-blasting before?
The Beolab 2 has a sort of "rough surface" from factory glass-blasting/paint - can i paint it with a filler without erasing the bang&olufsen logo etc?
How has people previously painted these speakers?
Also does anybody know the color code (RAL9010?) and the gloss?

Klas Hesselman: Have you tried cleaners naphtha (clean n-heptane)? Just, before painting/buying new shells, i would try this (start on the back of the speaker).

Yes, the black rubberised coating on the BeoLab 3 will not take paint - they need blasting back to bare metal.
The BeoLab 2 you can etch prime and paint with no shotblasting needed, no problem.
I usually do mine in a Rolls Royce, Lamborghini or Ferrari colour. Not because it's a better colour though, it's just a bit more fitting that a beautiful brand has the colour of another beautiful brand!
Didn't know that about the BL3s but it makes sense..
You don't erase the bang&olufsen logo if you paint the BL2 with a filler (to smoothen the surface) before the primer and top coat?
Is it possible to find guides on how to disassemble BL2/BL3?
