Hi!

I recently bought a beogram 7000 for my beosystem 7000. I knew that I bought the beogram without an MMC pick-up.
Im just wondering which pick-ups you can use?
And is it possible to buy another brand? (I know that Bang & Olufsen pick-ups can be quite expensive)

Best regards Olav

Hi there.

I guess you know that you cannot buy B&O pick-ups anymore.

However -there's a company called Soundsmith that manufactures pickups for B&O turntables, based on the original B&O. But they are as expensive (or even more expensive) as the originals.

Another company, based in Germany sells retipped B&O cartridges. It's

schallplattennadeln.de

- they also repair old cartridges. So unless you are lucky to find a fully functional second hand pick-up, you can buy a defective and get it repaired.

You can not buy another brand for your Beogram.

You can use any of the latest In the line from MMC-5 to the top of the line MMC-1.

I would suggest you look for an old MMC1-5 and get Axel to re-tip it as a MMC2 with the sapphire cantilever and contact line diamond. This will give you the sound intended. If you prefer a brighter sound, Soundsmith do a SMMC2 with a ruby cantilever and contact line diamond. That is brand new and made with more modern materials but will be a fair bit more expensive. I had an Axel MMC2 and it was superb.
