I sold my TX 5653 to a friend 25 years ago.  Today, he gave it back.  It's in good shape except the metal lid has rotted foam and the hinge mechanism needs a little force to open or close... It's almost like it's gunked with dried molasses.  I assume it needs to be lubricated?  If so, with what?  And what's a good method for reattaching the foam-rotted lid?

Double-sided 3M tape from an auto-body/paint supplier-Google it.

The hinge may be fine; don't mess with it until you have the aluminum cover attached. The "lubrication" seen on the assy is highly viscous and damps the action of the lid closing-it's quite likely to be OK.

If after assemble it is too stiff, I'd try slightly wetting it with some CRC or similar silicated lubricant

The double-sided tape works great.  Many thanks!
