Hi All,

I'm new to this forum so please be gentle.

During my teens I lusted after B&O HiFi, in particular the Beo 5000 series. And now I'm proud owner of a Beomaster 5000 and Beogram 5000 Big Smile and will be adding a CD50 when I see one for sale.

There is a problem with the cartridge which I'm investigating with the seller. In the meantime is it possible to use other cartridges (read cheaper here)? In the fullness of time I will either get my one working or source another B&O one, I'm a purest so would need to eventually, but at the moment I'm dying to listen to my old vinyl.

Any help? Cheers,

Tony

Which cartridge came with the Beogram?

you can use any of the B&O MMC range of cartridges: MMC1 through to 5.  MMC1 is the best (read most expensive) and MMC5 the least 'best and also cheaper.  The details of the differences between them is easy to find online (Beoworld 'products' page at the mainsite).

All can be bought via auction sites but any used one will be in an unknown condition and is a potential risk.  Even so called NOS (new old stock) are a risk as the suspension deteriorates over time so the diamond may be perfect but the sound will still be awfull.

Hence, a reconditioned cartridge as detailed above is probably the best option - there are no real 'cheap' options to cartidges these days.  Unless you are given one by a friend or other Beoworld member (I'm not that generous!).

Dave.

It came with an MMC4.... I was hoping whilst I source\recondition a B&O cartridge I could use a different make, alas not.

Don't suppose anyone has one for sale, I ask cheekily ;-)
