Hi all!
I've been reading the forums for a while now, waiting for my speakers and components to arrive to post!
Unfortunately now that I've got some stuff, I seem to be having some issues getting it going. When I was connecting my Penta II's to the Beomaster 5000 (either through RCA line-out or Speakerlink) the sound I was getting was sounding terribly fuzzy and distorted. I tested the speakers by themselves by hooking them up directly to an ipod, and they are fine, so I am fairly certain it is a connection problem within the Beomaster.
From reading other threads, I gathered that there was likely a broken solder connection on the output board (because both RCA and SL sound terrible), and sure enough, the Right channel RCA line-out was so loose it just came right off with a slight wiggle. It appears that not only that, but the solder around the Left plug grounds are cracked, so I take it this is why I still get fuzzy sound even through the Speakerlink? Or could there be something damaged elsewhere? (I was hoping that by using Speakerlink instead of RCA I'd bypass the issue all together, but it appears not).
The Beomaster previously worked before purchasing it - I heard it myself, also hooked up to Pentas, I feel like when the seller disconnected their cables it probably was the last straw on the old connections and did them in.
I've attached (or tried to attach) an image of the damaged section, what do you guys suggest? I feel comfy soldering, I'm thinking I'm going to try and reattach the loose plug, and try and fix the cracked solder around all the other grounds. Is this a good place to start?
Hoping to get this working soon, I haven't really had the chance yet to give these Pentas a good listen! I appreciate any feedback, I'm looking forward to posting more!
Daniel
The correct way to connect the penta's to the beomaster 5000 is by using the speaker sockets om the master to the speakerlink input on the lab's. RCA are not used.
These RCA are (sometimes) used with a powerlinksplitter. These splitters combine speakerlink for displaydata and RCA for audio from a master with powerlink. Like the early Beolab Penta MK 1, they only have speakerlink, phono and passive sockets at the bottom.
