I have a Mk1 beosound 9000 and often get a scraping/rubbing noise when playing a cd. It will then pause. If Iselect another cd and then move back to the one that was originally rubbing it will often play ok.

I took it to B&O cheltenham to get it serviced/repaired and was told the problem was due to the laser and that replacements are no longer available. ie the unit is now scrap and they charged me £60 for the privilege!

Somebody else told me that if the fault was due to the laser it would not work at all. It works fine other than the intermittent rubbing problem.

I am now wondering if it is due to an issue with the clamper alignment. It is wall mounted vertically and the mounting screws are adjusted accordingly.

Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it? Any advice would be appreciated

I don't think this has to do with the laser.

I have heard of similar symptoms, that have been cured.

Try another (and maybe better skilled) dealer!

I once found that the optimal screw setting for a given position differed from the recommended setting.  Maybe the case here.   But if you've got a Mk I that's never been serviced before (CD mechanism replaced/upgraded), perhaps it's time.

I had this problem with my BS-9000 MK1 about 7 years after purchase. It was the CD mechanism, and it cost about $700 to replace the entire mechanism. That was over 10 years ago, and my MK1 has been fine ever since.
