I'm thinking to change my old beloved Beoalb's 1. But I have no possibility to make a hearing test in my house before buying.

Do you think there will be a gap between BL1 and BL9? I mean on an objective analysis: Frequency response, phase response etc.

I ask here, because I found no test or review on the Beolab 1 to compare.

For the Beolab 9, I founded only the review of german Stereoplay magazine 5/2007: Klang, Absolute Spitzenklasse 58 Punkte. Gesamturteil: 79 Punkte (gut -sehr gut). (Link for the pdf is attached)

What do you think? tx

Samsung PS64F8500, Beosound 9000, 2 x Beolab 1, Beolab 7-4, Beolab 2, 2 x Beolab 4000, Beolab 3500, 2 x Beo 4, Emotiva UMC-200, Oppo BDP-103D, Panasonic DMR BCT-730; Harmony Ultimate.

Hi

I was temptated several time to buy a pair of bl1 but I have discussed with many b&o fan who already heard them, well nobody advise me to buy them.

If you just consider the bass differences between the 2 models, the bl1 are completely out.

Even with the bl2, the bl1 won't be as pleasant as the bl9.

The bl9 has the alt, when you like it, you definetely want it.

The best way is that you make your own test.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

If you have BeoLab 1's, and are happy with them but want to make an improvement, get a BeoLab 2.

I already have one Sir Moderator Wink (with crossover at 80 Hz on my Emotiva UMC-200). But in the medium... The Beolab 2 cannot help... right?

In fact I was happy with them until... hearing PSI Audio A-215M  http://www.psiaudio.com/product/active-monitors/a215-m

I had the sensation that I was more "moved" by the music. Like when you hear an organ in a church, a big drum during Carnival, a jazz quintet or a symphonic orchester.

Well that's the reason why I'm thinking about BL9 (old and not the new upcoming version) We can bought a lot of 1st hand occasion (pre-used) in mint condition....

I have both 1s and 9s. When deciding whether or not to get the 9s I set them up next to the 1s so we could listen to one pair, then the other. I thought it would be closer than it was. After only a few minutes of comparison, it was clear to both my wife and I that we were keeping the 9s, the sound was very noticeably better.

Thanks for the answer. And did you feel a difference with the lens of the BL9 ? A little bit more "omni"-directional than the BL1 ?

You can identify the accoustic Len effect in 9s  despite the fact that their midrange is directional.

The high frequencies are all over you and the sweet spot is big.

their midrange is like other conventional speakers.

by the way, psi are excellent speakers from a pro company... Not a bad choice..

Yes. I would describe the difference as listening to the 1s, I felt like I was listening to very good speaker, but aware the sound was coming from the speakers. With the 9s it was as if there were no speakers, just sound. A very distinct difference between the two.

I think room and room placement are important factors. Not every speaker will like the same placement as another

Barry, do you mean the bl19 sub ?

I am surprised there has been no feed back on the 19 versus the bl2.

Thanks

So with a wireless sub you can place it where you want, hmmm  Barry?

But with a crossover at 80 Hz the bass from the sub are non-directional... So the BL2 must do it's job. The problem, the feeling, is probably over 80 Hz. I mean in the mid-range.

My understanding is that the BL2 was designed to complement the BL1. It has a setting on the crossover for the BL1, along with a setting for things like the 8000/4000, and one for the BL4.

One problem if you go with the BL19 is that it only has a low pass filter, if you want to keep the bass out of the BL1s with a high pass filter you need to use the wireless transmitter and receiver pairing for the BL1s, which is a 120 hz hi/lo pass crossover.

Also, the whole "you can place the sub anywhere" is not true, it really should be somewhere inbetween the main speakers, or at worst just outside them. And 80 hz, depending on slope, is audibly locatable. If it's a 2nd order slope particularly, if it's 4th order, harder and depends on your sensitivity.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

That would be disappointing. I was considering buying a BL19 for use with my BL1s.

Has anyone put a BL19 through its paces yet ?
