A question for any Bv 11 owners. Was there any extras you did/ not get  that you regretted ?

I am on the verge of getting one. (with magnets Smile )

46 being my maximum size there is no point waiting for the new BV

I think the freeview hd recorder might have been useful. Although I've heard it's not actually very good..

I have the hard disk recorder that comes complete with dual satellite and freeview tuners. I find it very easy to use and cannot fault it. Someone who posted negative comments in another thread, I suspect, was trying to record and view too many simultaneous things from one tuner.

The TV will not stream internet radio for which the cheapest solution is to add an Apple TV.

Either the Sky+ or Virgin Media box does a better and far more reliable job. Besides, you can always find catch-up content via your iPad/iPhone and stream to your Apple TV, if you don't have a Sky/Virgin box, so I think the HD recorder is unnecessary, particularly at the price B&O wanted to charge!

Any more info on unreliability?

I have had no problems and like to have a system totally independent of needing to subscribe. The satellite module also comes pre-programmed with every broadcast satellite.

This is new to me. Via satellite dish ?

You select which satellite(s) you wish to view. Obviously you need a multi lnb dish and have to restrict yourself to an appropriate group of satellites which your dish can pick-up. The long list of satellites comes up in the set-up menu.

I think you could probably also control a motorised dish... something I still need to research.

When I ordered the hard disk the dealer told me that the satellite module was already built- in, but you would need to check that this is true of all BV11s.

How does that work in the UK? Nobody talks about a CI-module with smartcard. Is an external settopbox required for terrestrial, cable and/or satellite?

There are two CI slots on the TV (with sat module).

From the manual:

2 x PCMCIA (CA Module)
For insertion of a module and card for access to coded digital channels. For more information
about compatible card and module combinations, contact your Bang & Olufsen retailer

Okay, but are the CI slots also supported by the cable and terrestrial providers in the UK?

The cable slots work with cable in Sweden anyway

I don't think they do as UK broadcaster's use encryption, which is why you need the (Sky, Virgin, paid Freeview channels) box to decrypt the data. My guess is that B&O won't consider paying any kind of license to each broadcaster, in each territory, to license their technology for decrypting their signal (if they are allowed at all, that is).

"paying any kind of licence to each broadcaster".

Why should they? You pay - through the smartcard, which you pop into the CI-module.

Or do the broadcasters in the UK still force people to buy 'their' box for pay-tv?

There is a tv - and there is a BV

In another thread I think that there were complaints that an Apple TV placed in one of the spare BV11 compartments (intended for the wall hinge motor) kept cutting out for unknown reasons.

The Apple forum support pages indicate that the ATV is not designed for vertical use due to the heat sink/ radiator being on top and the internal components being designed for horizontal placement. My ATV is located remote from the TV.... I haven't risked usng the spare hinge compartment.

I've stopped using my appletv , it's too unreliable ( firmware update really messed it up )

Hopefully getting a shiny new mac pro to replace it :)

It will fit nicely on the stand just below the tv !

I have Comhem as operator and they encrypt their cable transmissions as well (CI+) and it works fine. But I would ask a local dealer to make sure
