Beolab 3... Line in-volume control

Hello beofellows,

I just got a used pair of beolab 3 for use as rear speakers for a surround sound system. While my apt is being remodeled I temporarily connected the bl3 as stereo pair for tv watching.

In nyc my service provider is verizon. In settings in the fios-dvr I set the volume to variable. The problem is that the volume control doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong, any idea?
