Thought I would give my newly acquired BeoGram 4500 a good clean and inspection before putting it into place as part of my "new" BeoSystem 4500. But... when I opened it I soon realized that something is missing! Where is the RIAA!? And why has someone chosen to unsolder the wires to the pickup carriage? Hmm... So if someone by any chance should have a RIAA amplifier (PCB 4) from a BG3500, 4500, 6500 or 7000 lying around, I would be happy to hear from you.

I would hate to have to take parts from my BG3500 and have that one standing around being useless.

And what it should look like (My BG3500):

What a surprise thinking it would only need a pickup and a new belt...

Hi Dennis

I found this one, but I dont find the company on the web, it was there a few years ago, MB Electronic now shows as a Herning electronic shop, but maybe a call to them can help.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Hi Søren,

Thanks; that could be a solution! It is indeed difficult to find any information about MB Electronic. I will try to track down a phone number to the shop in Herning and hear if they are able to supply the board but an original would still be preferable.

I guess another solution could be to use the innards from the BG3500 in the BG4500 and rebuild the BG3500 as a BG8500; should only be a matter of connecting the cables in the right way. That was probably also the intention, cause something that struck me while looking at the pictures is how long the signal cable in the BG4500 is! It's about 20 cm longer than the one in the BG3500. So this could very well be an attempt to convert a BG4500 into a BG9500. But why remove the RIAA then...? Confused

This could have been a perfect solution. There is a little problem with it though; it costs just short of what I gave for the BG4500 + a BS3000! Surprise

Dennis, it is your lucky day!!

I have a working but very cosmetically challenged Beogram 6500 that I am breaking up for spares. It's an unfortunate story of a wife buying the wrong deck as a present for husband (should have bought non RIAA deck). I agreed to exchange but on the way back to me, this one got the Parcelfarce treatment!

The RIAA is available, still connected to the sliding carriage and the output cable.

Email me if you are interested  in buying these items.

Regards Graham

So, guess it's time for an update on this one.

The MB-Electronic solution would cost me 750DKK (£82 / 100€), so I ended up buying a cosmetically challenged (Broken lid and scratches) BeoGram 3500 for 500DKK (£55 / 67€) instead, which isn't too bad really.

I'm satisfied; the BeoSystem is hanging on the wall looking so gorgeous - the most beautiful B&O system IMO - and what a pleasant experience using it. I especially enjoyed listening to the BG4500 with my MMC1 - the sound quality and detail never ceases to amaze me.

Pictures will of course follow on the Flash your B&O thread.

/Dennis
