So I've finally got around to re-capping my BC4000 (the 1970's one based on the BM2200) and it is now sounding great.
In the course of re-assembling it I would like to get the hinge assemblies working properly - can anyone advise me whether the spring assembly is supposed to lift the doors or just provide damping to it's movement?
I presume the top part of this plastic assembly would originally have been glued into the groove within the underside of the aluminium doors? Mine are no longer attached and the nipple that sits in the pivot point of the doors had broken off (although I was lucky enough that these were caught in the grease on the mechanism, so I have been able to retrieve them and glue them back into place)
Cheers,
Martin.
Yes, the part with the damper plates is glued to the underside ridge of the lid.The thick wire spring lifts up the lid when released by the key on the frontpanel.
Martin
Thanks Martin,
Both doors are working perfectly now
I thought the thick wire spring acted directly on the door to lift it that first couple of millimeters when the catch was released so had it positioned incorrectly. Once I figured out that it should act upon the damper plate and glued the damper assemblies to the doors everything worked as it should.
Next step is to get the cassette recorder working. I know some time ago when I ordered the capacitor kit from you we briefly discussed the tape belts and you said you did not keep these in stock - are you able to get hold of these or do you know what size belts I would need?
PS. You mentioned at the time you thought there were four belts in this model, whereas I could only see three. You were correct - I hadn't taken into account the belt that drives the counter but found it loose in the bottom of the unit upon removing the cassette assembly.
Kind Regards,
I may have some of the belts but probably not all. This is a kit that was in themaking but for some reason (that escapes me) wasn't completed.Actually, I think there are no less than five belts (parts callout);
1. Deck - counter idler (230)2. Counter idler - Counter (46)3. Wind/Rewind motor - Idler (134)4. Wind/Rewind Idler - Deck (141)5. Capstan flywheel (146)
Maybe you can confirm this and I'll have a look and see what I have.
Yes, sorry, you are correct. You said five before and I counted four (not four vs three) so with the addition of the counter idler - counter belt that I missed it is indeed five belts.
