Hi!

I´m used to the older ml tecnology. Now I´m renovating an old house and thinking of mixing old an new B&O in different rooms. What do I need to thing of? Are IR-eyes not used anymore? Only wifi/ethernet?

I want to mix:

Rooms

1: Beolab 8000 for music

2. Beolab 6000 for music

3. Beolab 15 &16 for music. Do they need Ir-eye or how does it work?

4. A new TV, Avant?

5. Avant CRT connected to Beosound 3200

6. Computer to speakers

Can I integrate Encore? How?

Can I integrate Essense? How?

Can I integrate Beomaster 5? How?

Please help

I have similar challenges - a mix of very old (MCL era), old (ML), new (WiFi), and ambitions for very new (NL).

I do not have solution of my own despite many sketches and much thinking.

I have had two long conversations with one B&O staffer who is on my wave length ... his recommendations are:

* replace my MacMini and BeoPort with a NAS

* replace my two BV8s with one modern BV (today one would go for the Avant)

However there are other fine details to work through:

* do I leave my 6000s on BeoLink Wireless 1 ?

* what so I do with my 4xBL4s and an associated BeoLink Active ?

* what do WE do with the BeoSound 4 (my wife still likes to use CDs) ?

I feel the Essence is the right way to go (hence current avatar picture) ...

I wish our B&O owned stores would offer trade ins ! It would ease my headaches

I understand they work like any other speaker.  They have the new RJ45 type PL cables.  For a wireless solution of this you could integrate a PM.  But being that the PM is now superseded by the Essence, you could integrate an Essence.

4. A new TV, Avant?

I would go for an Avant, but you may also consider a BV11 (that is if you really need a new TV)

Can I integrate Encore? How?

The encore is a stand alone solution and will solely connect to a pair of speakers and or the Essence.  The encore has been discontinued and works well with a NAS.

Can I integrate Essense? How?

  As above

Can I integrate Beomaster 5? How?

The BM5 only works with the BS5 and not the BS5Encore.  It is essentially a NAS.

Hi

You seem to have a good array of equipment there , i have made some comments in each of the questions above.

I don't have any ML products, so i'm not sure about the IR eye and the need for it

I think the staffer is on to a good wavelength there.  I would replace the MacMini with a NAS, you could use the NAS as your iTunes storage and it offers greater capacity.  But that's only a nice to have, not a need to have because you like your current setup.

I would only replace the 2 BV8s if they are no good anymore - from the photos you have posted in the past, it looks so nice in your setup, that where you have it placed, I dear say that you may not be able to put an avant or other TV in to your bookcase / television stand (i'm going from memory here).  But having a new TV will add weight to have everything on your NAS.

The Essence is a good way to go, but you could integrate this with the Wireless Transmitter 1 for your other speakers.  But if they are all working ok in their current setup, I wouldn't replace anything if it is not going to give you any increased functionality.

Keep your BS4 especially if your wife likes CDs - I would advise against going down that path! lol .  Can't you integrate an Essence with your BS4?

And yes, I wish our stores would offer trade ins too - actually i don't know that they do or don't, because i would like to exchange my BL3's for perhaps the new BL18s or keep them.  I hardly use them, but yeah, I would like the wireless and airplay built in.

@hagan

Sorry - there are too many unknown details in your questions for me to be able to come up with a qualified answer.

It really depends on what your wishes/needs are, how your locations are, and on your budget.

@elephant

If you 'only' want to have access to your music, you won't need a NAS.

Just install a good DLNA server (Twonky or so) on the MacMini - do you have more music than that HD can handle?

If you are a iTunes-user you could use ipad/Remote app/AirPlay too.

I would think of integrating the Essence with the BS4.

And of cource one new tv (Avant) Lets have a Party !!! - for the integration you probably would want the converter too!

Why should you need to change more?

MM

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Some clarification:

1 can I integrate a pair of separate beolab 8000 in one room? Is beolink active the way to go?

2  can I do the same in a different room with a pair of bl 6000

3  can I use an encore in kitchen connected to beolab 15 and 16

3. Can i integrate computer in different room?

4. Can I integrate a beosound 3200 in another room for cd?

5. If I go for essence in kitchen instead, can I use Beo4 in that room? I don' t like using ipads and iphones as remote
