Hi to all,
A friend of mine recently asked me if I had a spare turntable for her. I'll give her my beloved beogram 1600, my 1st B&O ever... (Now, like most of you, it has become an addiction and I have no room left for anything else...)
There's seem to be a lack of information about this beautiful deck since it seems to be a North American thing only (i'm in Canada). Here are some photos of it. The information found on this site about it seems to be wrong (for what I can compare) maybe this will help and brings light on it's fabrication:
The deck is beautiful and really simple. Note the MMC 10E, which seems to be the original fitting. It appears that along the production, a roller for adjusting the pitch was added on the control pad. This one does not have it. Also note the black squared arm.
The RCA cable fitting also appears to be original. The hole from where they pops out is rectangular, so no DIN cable where there before.
This is type 5712 (US version). However it is really a 120V version. On the site, I've found out that the Gram 1602 was the american version, it seems to be wrong...
In fact, the 1602 seems to be the exact same deck BUT with the same slender arm as the beogram 1700, not the black squared one:
... A side view of the deck. In my opinion, that view is aesthetically superior to the side view of the 4000 series. It is much slimmer and the aluminum plate between the wood trim and the dustcover adds to the look:
Soundwise, I never expected much from it. I never used it and just recently tested it. However I was impressed by it's sound quality. I'm happy that it will soon serve it's real purpose. The only complain I can made is the kling klang and unclear operation of the control panel. Maybe that's the reason why the 1700 is a superior deck...
