In the beolovers best purchase topic we started wandering g off topic (heaven forbid, but this is why this forum is so special).
However rather than upset some, and broaden its appeal, I thought start this topic ... here is "The Beonic Man's" answer to my question of "what 4K are you watching ..." ... let the debates/discussions begin !
BTW, Beonic has picked the same two clips that I had for being the "best of class" ...

1. Costa Rica in 4K 60fps (Ultra HD) - by jacobschwartz is a particular favourite of mine with so many brilliant scenes I could pick out. Particularly, the first snake at 0:08 seconds in, the first lizard at 1:02 which is absolutely spectacular (my favourite in the whole footage) and a second smaller lizard at 2:00 where a lizard jumps across the water - not only is the resolution great here, but the colours displayed by the BV9 and the way it handles the very fast motion is effortless. Also 2.42, 3.28 and onwards with more snakes, just the clarity really. The whole clip is excellent from start to finish to be honest. Have a look at their other 4K uploads too. A decent internet connection is required so you don't get any panning problems due to slow downloading.
2. 4K-England-Long - by hqmedia is another breathtaking clip. At the beginning, the red telephone box (particularly) and red busses to follow are out of this world on the BV9. I imagine the deep rich realistic colours of plasma make a difference, not just the resolution and other factors around the footage. So I can't vouch for what others will see with the same footage on different TVs but give it a go. As above, all the other uploaded videos from hqmedia are equally impressive.
Of course we know the BV9 is not showing native 4K to its full potential, but I do find it fascinating to see just how great these images look. Kudos to Panasonic and to B&O. I can see why this television was the top of the range at the time. The colours of plasma are quite marvellous. I have never really noticed this before, which is perhaps because great source material (from expensive commercial cameras) hasn't really started to surface until fairly recently for the home market. Amazing to see what can truly be achieved with the right source.
There is native 8K footage available on YouTube too, and I am happy (and relieved I think!) to say that I definitely can't notice a further difference between that and 4K - not on the BV9 anyway!
I think there's a whole new thread to be had about this, with discussion around just what has changed over the last 5 years (let's say) that has really made much of an impact on what we see on our screens with our day-to-day viewing habits. Apologies to the OP if it seems this thread has been hijacked a little, it was never intentional! Questions have been asked and I feel compelled to answer! :)

err, it's not showing 4K at all, and certainly not 60fps 4k, nor can you see the full colour gamut of full UHDTV!! At best you are looking at 1080p image, which may or may not have had it's colours tweaked etc. to look more vibrant than normal footage on a demo reel.
It's the same as trying to hear the quality of 24bit 192Khz audio files by listening to a CD, you can't do it!

You are correct - however the hypothesis is that when more bits arrive from the source the downscaling algorithms do a better job that (say) YouTube has done
And way back when (i.e. 2002/2003) I downloaded HD 1080 samples like these and used the at the B&O dealer - we quickly discovered that BVs of the time did not have the grunt to process the files
And so with the advent of the new Avant this thread was in part to identify source materials for tests / pleasurable viewing
Good idea for a thread elephant. I have been searching through 4K videos on YouTube on my new Avant. I have to say the Costa Rica video is gorgeous. I really love their "BIRDS OF PREY 4K" video too. Unfortunately there's a lot of videos labelled as UHD or 4K and clearly aren't, particularly the movie trailer stuff.
One thing I'm very curious about though. Obviously the new Avant is 4K capable but is the YouTube internal app capable of playing in 4K? Some of the videos like the Costa Rica one certainly look like they could be playing in 4K. But is there some kind of picture info I can bring up that tells me what resolution the current image is playing at?

I am not sure - on a PC yes, click on the cog icon near bottom left of the youtube window in the browser and you can select from available sources.
In the original thread I copied this from Beonic and I were discussing whether signing on through a YouTube account might work ... hoping that there was a setting to force a preference for the highest source resolution possible.
Of course you can always:
a) use the HDMI and and a PC and get to being absolutely sure
b) download the YouTube clip and play from a USB device directly
I thought I read somewhere that the avant is not capable of playing 4K from any other source than a dedicated 4K player connected through an HDMI port. So no app, or USB would be playing in the 'right' resolution, instead it would do an upscaled version of 1080p.

I know what you mean .... but it was referring to the first HDMI report and there has been much speculation whether that meant only the first, or what.
I think that still leaves open the question of a USB ...
Or my macMini's HDMI to the first position ?
