Hi, i've recently got a Beosystem 2300 and am having a few issues.

First of all, the glass doors are not closing every time. Sometimes they do, sometimes they stop halfway. I did some cleaning on the outside to the rails and pretty much nothing changed.

Second, i've had a friend make me an ordinary AUX to 3.5mm so i can hook it up to my PC until i purchase a high quality cable. The problem is i need to have the Beocenter turned up to at least 70 out of 90 to have normal volume. The system is hooked to a temp PCI-E sound card which i got with my Asus Maximus III Formula. Do i need a preamp to have normal volume and will playing them at 70 damage the speakers in the long run, even though the volume is not high?

Also, when i switch to CD or Tape the sound from my PC is still coming through? Could it be that the cable is messed up?

Thanks for any help Smile

Hi,

The belt that drives the doors needs to be replaced.

Make sure that the volume of your soundcard is set to 90-95%.  Another reason could be that you have the wrong cable. The Auxilary has both input and outputchannels.

Yes, i know that AUX has both input and output but my friend only connected the pins for AUX playback because i don't need to record anything from it. Is that why the sound from my PC keeps playing even when i switch to a different source (CD, Tape...)

Sounds like the cable is wired incorrectly... you are likely inputting the computers line-out into the beosystems line-out... Not going to do it any good. Its worth not using it until you get a proper cable.

If you connect line out to line out of the BC you would not hear anything?

The cable was made using the following diagram found right here on Beoworld. Playback L, Playback R and shield were connected on a DIN-5 cable.

Sooner or later you will kill some of your hardware. Either the preamp or the soundcard.

You have line out of your soundcard connected to the output of the preamp... very nice. Some day there will be smoke...

Use "recording", this is the input line. Then select "Tape2" or "Phono" to activate the pc sound.

As I suspected, you've wired into the output pins. Pins 3 and 5 are outputs (playback means output)  you want Pins 1 and 4 for inputs. The reason you can hear anything is signal leak.. this is normal.

Wire the cable correctly and you should find it works fine.

Thanks for the input. I'll have the cable made this week and report back...

To be fair labeling the inputs and outputs Playback and Recording is just asking for trouble when the component in question is both a source and recording device. It might be a good time to edit the drawing to simply state Input and Output to avoid confusion and damage. After all, the Audio Aux can be recorded onto the cassette or played back as a source component, right?

You're right, but even if you named them Input and Output, many people would still confuse them. I've had some RCA-SCART adapters which were named that way - only that you were supposed to connect the "input" RCA leads to the inputs of the connected device, exactly the opposite of what a technically minded person would probably do...

Anyway, I'm sure the OP will have a working cable once the pins are swapped Smile

Does anyone have a diagram for speaker cables? I can't seem to find any... They're din-5, non powerlink.

I'm not sure i'll need the speaker cable diagram though, the cable shop tested my original one and said they can make one. If you can find any though, great.

Anyway, i bought the proper AUX cable (regular quality) and everything's great, volume levels are normal now, i don't need to push the speakers to 70 to get them to sound normal, now i just need to order a higher quality one :)

Thanks for the help everyone

I would sugest buying a cable from eBay or Soundsheavenly. They are cheap and you will get a professional one.
