RX2 Beogram

Hi all, just purchased a B&O beogram rx2 from ebay.

Its in very good condition, only the sound is very low.

I think it could be the phono leads? 

Is there anyone that could give any advice on how to fix this problem?

never attempted to repair something like this before so all help would be great.

Welcome to Beoworld.

Unfortunately your RX2 has no build in RIAA preamp. Therefore you have to use it with the receiver which has built in preamp on the phono input or you have to buy the external phono preamp. You can find few more information here:

Its just a small hi-fi system with phono in & output (no earth connection)

The sound comes out its just very very low.

The stylus seems fine.

Hi again.

As I said, unfortunately you have to add RIAA preamp between your TT and the hi-fi system. That is the reason for your low level.

In this case an external phono preamp is one solution but maybe you can consider to get a matching B&O receiver. The costs for the phono preamp of average quality and for the vintage B&O receiver with build in preamp (e.g. Beomaster 1000, Beomaster 2400, Beomaster 3000...) would be almoust the same. I would say, with some luck you can get nice Beomaster between 50 and 100€.

Well, it depends;

Is the sound quality OK - only the volume a bit low, then it's probably because the output
from the MMC cartridge (notoriously a bit on the low side) doesn't match the amplifier input.
Yes, I know that the Beogram X-models were meant for use with non-B&O amplifiers but
nothing was done from B&O to match the standard input levels of other brands amplifiers.
Only the output cable has RCA instead of DIN.

Is the sound distorted and "screech'ing", unpleasant on the ears and VERY low, then you need RIAA.
