I have recently picked up a B&O Beogram 3000 Type 5228 Turntable from eBay and am looking for a good preamp for it.
The BeoWorld website mentions that the Beogram 3000 can be connected with a GF4 preamp, but I am unable to find anything about this seemingly phantom preamp.
Does anyone know any more details about this? Any pictures?
If the GF4 is unavailable/non-existent then can someone please recommend me a few good preamps that wouldn't cost the world and work well with this TT and a modern power amp?
Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated!

The GF4 (Type 5306) is not a phantom - just rare.It looks like this:

Wow, that was quick! I've spent hours trying to find out about this pre-amp and apart from
"In common with the 1200 and 1800, the GF4 preamplifier could be fitted, and this was very easy, as it did not require the Beogram to be dismantled, or any wired connections to be made. Removal was just as easy. Use of the GF4 allowed two Beogram 3000s to be connected to one Beomaster 3000."
I was unable to find anything else. I'm not even sure if this is even compatible for the 3000-type 5228 or if it is made for the tangential 3000 instead.
Anyway, just to know, I've looked high and low but even adding "type 5306" to my search I am unable to get anything relevant. No pictures, no wanted ads, no information nothing. What am I doing wrong? Any idea where I would have more luck looking?

It will fit Beogram 3000 (5228) fine but NOT any of the other Beogram 3000s (of which there are a total of no less than four!).
Truth be told, there's not a lot of information about the vintage stuff on the net.I've collected B&O audio for more than 35 years so I have gathered a nice bunch of units, manuals and tech notes etc. andI believe I have both the schematics, parts list and circuit board layout for the GF4 and I've often thought about reproducing it.With the modern lack of turntable inputs on amplifiers, the demand for it seems higher today than it did 30 years ago.
Yeah I have a 5228 so thats good news. It's still on its way, so how do I tell if the piece I'm getting has the GF4 already installed?
Regarding B&O equipment, it seems you have an impressive collection mate! Nicely done :). You've been collecting this stuff for longer than I'm alive!!
So the options in front of me are to either make a GF4 or somehow pickup one as soon as I find it offline/online.
Might be easier to just get a good third-party pre-amp. Any recommendations specifically for the 5228?

Any external preamp will work, though I would recommend you stay away from the cheapest ones.
The GF4 sits in a slot through the bottom plate. No tools required.Lift up the Beogram and take a look underneath.
Yeah I'm looking at the NAD PP2e and CA 640p. Hopefully I can find a used on around the £50-90 mark.
Here is the image of my 5228s bottom plate. Do I need to look at the slot on the right with the red coming through the grill?
The part with the red inside is the motor.The RIAA slot is usually at the opposite end but your Beogram 3000 doesn'tseem to have the slot in the bottom plate so the bottom plate will have to come off to fit a RIAA preamp.
