Hello fellow BeoWorld'ers!.
I recently purchased a BeoGram 2000 (newer one). It's been playing brilliantly, aside from the odd clicking noise when it first gets going (which then stops, almost as if something's stuck and then works it's way lose), but I went to play it the other day and the arm has stopped moving. The table doesn't turn either. But it hasn't fused, because if I press the Cue button, the red light comes on, so there is power going to it.
Does anyone have any ideas? Is it related to the clicking noise? Can I fix the fact it's not moving, and going forward can I fix the clicking noise because, although it stops after a bit, it is irritating (and for all I know is doing damage).
Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
Welcome to Beoworld !
First check the platter belt. (Lift off the platter to see the belt).
Martin
Thanks for your soft reply Martin. These are probably silly follow up questions but is the platter the turntable bit and how do I lift if? It seems to be pretty well attached to the unit.
Soft should read swift. Predictive text!
The platter is the aluminum piece where you put the records on, get your fingertips under the edge, then press with a thump on the shaft in the middle, sometimes the platter sits a little hard but it will come off.
Before anything else, pull off the pickup cartridge, it is easy to damage it while working on the deck. I also secure the tonearm to the deck with a piece of tape.
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
The belt was twisted so I took it off and worked all the links out but it still isn't running.
Does the platter turn easy if you rotate it by hand (unpowered) ?And does the motor pulley follow ?
Hi Martin.
Yes, the patter rotated fine by hand - I ran it round a few times to ensure the belt had no more kinks in it, and that it was on correctly.
If the motor pulley is the part hidden just under the aluminium, then yes it seemed to move fine.
Thanks for all your help with this Martin - apologies if my replies aren't helping to shed any light on things!
(PS - not sure if this helps, but the first time I took the platter off to check the belt, when I put it back on the deck fired up and started moving, but without the tonearm moving over. However, the second time, which was when I noticed the belt was twisted and corrected that, nothing happened when I put the platter back on)
Hi there forum members. I've still had no joy starting the record player. Based on the symptoms already given, are there any other suggestions? Thanks on advance!
Perhaps the belt has stretched and is slipping(?) Member Dillen, who responded to your post, would have the correct replacement. If that doesn't fix it, it needs professional repair. But frankly, it would be cheaper for you to purchase a similar turntable without a cartridge (e.g. 2000 / 1800 / RX / RX-2) and sell what you've got as a parts unit.
And you have a record on the platter, right ?The Beogram won't start without a record.
Yes, there was a record on the platter (thankfully, otherwise I'd have felt pretty silly!).
It looks like the belt may have stretched as it's not overly tight to the turntable part and this is making it slip off and also kink.
Would it be easier to diagnose if I either supplied some pics or did a Skype call so you could better diagnose it? Hoping it's simple and cheap to fix - have a wedding coming up so buying a new deck is out of the question at the mo! :-)
