Hello,

I am looking for a affordable 3D Blu Ray player for a BeoVision 11. I would like it to be 3D, PUC compatible, perhaps rather compact (though it will be in a cupboard and not hang on the back of the BV11) and at an affordable price. Any suggestions please?

I was considering this player: Panasonic DMP-BDT130EB.

Any thoughts? Thanks BeoMedia

You can't fail to go wrong with a mid prices Pana! The nice thing with any Pana players is that they do not display their brand name on the splash screen when you power it up disguising the fact you have a non B&O player connected.

What's "affordable?" I have the Oppo BDP-103 and it's outstanding and built like a tank. I bought it a year or so ago for US $500.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

I have a SONY and it works very nicely with my BV11. Mine is 3 years old, so i am sure what is out there is even better and should not have any PUC issues. In the US the top line player is now $180, which I think is a bargain. Having said that i am not sure what the differences are between all the main vendors anymore, but SONY has been very good over the years.

BV11-55, BS9000, BL1, BL19, Transmitter 1, Beo4, Beocom 6000, BeoTalk1 200, Sennheiser HD600, McIntosh MHA100

Hi MM

I have used many variants of Pana players over the years and all basic functions work seamlessly with the PUC code G Panasonic Blu Ray. Some of the more expensive players feature Smart functions which are catered for within his PUC code. For £100 - £150 you can't fail to go wrong or for this money use a PS3 with Logitech Harmony

Generally you would use the Generic Sony/Panasonic/Samsung Blu Ray player Code. Not meaning to sound rude, as the title says they are generic within their own brand and work well between each of their machines.

You cannot go wrong with a "cheap" Sony, Samsung or Panasonic. Just to be sure there a PUC control for it.

The best picture is the more expensive Oppo or Cambridge player.

I know that!

On my new V1-32 I have a simple, cheap Philips BRP.

I didn't find the code for that model - in fact there were only a couple for the Philips players.

So I choose one of them (for a higher Series) - which works quite well.

In the menu there are several 'commands' which aren't available for 'my' player.

This doesn't bother me, because the main functions are working well.

But not all players/PUC-codes work well.

Some are less 'smooth' working than others - have slower response.

That was the reason for asking about the Pana and the PUC-codes.

My little feline friend I totally share your frustrations.

The PUC feature is totally unique to B&O TVs and is a brilliant feature.

If only B&O would allow EASY customized production of PUCS by dealers or other competent programmers then the appeal of the already magnificent BeoVision 11/ BeoSystem 4 would be even greater!!!

Please, please, please B&O make producing PUC codes as easy as pronto and your sales of you gorgeous, unsurpassed TVs will increase.

This simple change will ensure increased sales of which your superb TVs deserve.

Hi StUrrock,

it was not meant as a call of frustration!

The Philips-PUC I have does the job!

I think they are already doing a good job in Struer.

There are lots of codes for lots of different devices to have.

Mostly you will find one that works (some better than others).

No need to 'outsource' this exceptional service of our favorite brand.

Sorry to misunderstand your feelings, however not outsourcing this service is harming sales!!

Thanks Stuart - I might have to do a more controlled experiment, however tonight's quick test produced no results using generic Panasonic & Samsung ^ Pioneer PUC selections

What player were you using for your tests against each of these codes?

Sorry had missed your question before, so I just picked the sony generic. It is not perfect...sometimes the player does not turn on when the TV turns on and you choose dvd. Some detailed functions also sometimes do not work (such as to display more). But overall I would say 95% of the time I can just use the beo4 for everything I need...

now open question to the group, what is the difference with the Oppo 103 compared to a lower end player impacting the video and the sound? Is there a visible difference in the quality with a BV11?

Sorry for being AWOL from Beoworld ... never got a chance to repeat the tests ... maybe this weekend *sigh*

Anyway to answer your question, a cheap Sony  - the BDP S3100
