Aussie Michael:

With the BeoOne remote, is there a way to re-arrange the order of the inputs in the TV menu. At the moment it has TV then home media then web media, but i would like my Foxtel input to be the second choice?

Yes, you can. On the BR1 use List --> Settings --> TV --> Move to rearrange the sequence.

Thank you Flere Wink

My next question is, the BR1 doesn't have a mute button to mute the sound. Is there a quicker way to mute the sound (i often mute commercials), than list scroll scroll mute?

Same as the Beo4.

Press the volume button in the middle. So both vol up and vol down simultaneously.

Thanks for sharing.

Pics, pics, pics !!!

Michael is having problems uploading the pictures so he has shared them with Cliff and myself, and agreed that I can try to upload them on his behalf.

I shall leave it to him to reply to his own pictures with the narrative ...

Thanks for the pics guys, perfect place for this tv.

I may suggest one thing : Michael, try to improve the cable mess on the floor by tranferring it on the back of the tv. You can fix your multiple electrical cord (sorry for my bad english) on the floor stand with plastic rings, only letting the black sox on the floor to the wall.

Will try to find or take a pic of my installation.

The white big electrical thing on the left can be fixed on the stand directly.

Here you see a piece of it touching the beocom base.

I believe the "powered off" pic is an actual end-state. :) No cables and very tidy.

Michael, thanks for sharing - very, very nice really, hope that one day I will be posting Avant 75"! Wink

Thanks elephant for posting for me and I love your narrative

I will try the iPad app when I can :-)

Thanks for the advice re the power board hanging on the back of the TV. I did think that would have been a better solution but will see how that goes down the track. But in effect the only thing in your black sock Unsure is just the power cord and perhaps aerial then ?

Yes you have power cord and aerials (I have two) in the black sock.

The internet PLC and the modem are on the back of the tv so you only have one power cord and one aerial out of the black sock into the wall.

More practical if you want to unplug the tv or PS4 than going in your black box.

Yes a black box is better than wires everywhere but nothing (or almost nothing) would be better than a black box.

But you'll have time for that enjoy your tv first !

I use a Blue Lounge cable box for hiding the cable mess and power strip below my work desk.

They are great.

Hi Flere, thanks for helping me re arrange the position of the inputs in the menu on the BR1. Worked a treat.

Hi Chris, thanks for the hint about the ipad, that worked a treat.

I will try at a point to put the powerboard on the back of the TV but i don't have a lot of time at the moment to trial this.

I did buy the Bluelounge Cable box and i think it's quite good for what I need at the moment until i can re arrange the STB set up at the rear of the TV just swapping my foxtel with the Apple TV.

Today i have had the opportunity to trial a few things. They created a speaker group for me for TV which was just the centre which i thought sounded a bit tinny. So i changed the Left front and the right front as well as the middle to Centre when i just want to watch TV. Sounds so much richer.

The movie i'm watching at the moment is a Brit movie "The World's End" which isn't too bad but I have a movie speaker group for Centre , LF, RF, RR and LR and it's very good. I'm glad i kept the BL3s for the rears. I will set the rears up properly in terms of placement once my couch comes back from the manufacturer.

I did swap the BL Cable Box from the white to the black and i think it looks a bit better. I wish there was a silver coloured one then it would disappear a bit more, but until i try something a bit later i am much more impressed with the BL Cable box than the cables on the ground. woo hoo i think Millemissen would use this emoticon Lets have a Party !!!Lets have a Party !!!Lets have a Party !!!Lets have a Party !!!

So far really enjoying the BV experience.

I certainly would Geeked

The black one indeed looks better.

Quite odd - one should have thought that the white one would draw less attention, but obviously is not so.

Hiding cables is always a problem - especially with a 'stand-tv', if you can't drill a big hole in the wall and have access to all cables (and boxes) from the other side.

It has become nice - even if I miss a little 'decoration' in the room. Looks a bit 'bare' - imo.

Maybe it is there, but just not seen in the picture.

Isn't your tv provider broadcasting sound in stereo (or even some times in multichannel)?

From your description it seems to me, that - with the actual 'TV' Speakers Group - you'd only get mono (the tv downmixes everything to mono).

guess most tv programmes come with a stereo sound signal.

Why not set up a (default) group with Left/Center/Right for the tv speakers - in order to have stereo and a center channel.

A Speakers Group which uses only the center channel - as was originally set up - certainly is not, what was intended from the makers of the Avant.

Do some experimenting, when you find the time - in order to compare.

You can always reset things, if you don't like what you have done.

Reading the superb postings, that KMA made as he got his BV11, is a good insight in how to handle sound in a BSys4-based setup.

http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/3372.aspx?PageIndex=1

And do have a look here (at 14:00 if you are in a hurry) for the importance of the built-in Avant center speaker:

N.B. How about a BS8 set to assist you actual setup Lets have a Party !!!

Yeah michael still loving them always brings a smile to my face when i look and listen to them, that sub has some immense bass to it definitely one of my best purchases to date.

I also very much like the sound of the A3 really punches out a big sound for something so compact. Had a look at the avant yesterday really is a nice tv hope you get a lot of enjoyment from yours.

Maybe put a glass shelf plate behind the TV and put the BL box on there. Then you have only two small cables from the wall socket going up in the corner.

You would not see the box behind the TV.

But then the Avant still has a "Tail" of black cable . And the wall socket is lower down than the shelf needs to be ...

a neutral coloured low cabinet which covers the socket and holds the box would be good if the tail of cable could rest on it in my opinion.

Building a 'second wall' in front of the existing, pulling the 'black tail' through a fitting hole, and storing all your devices, antenna and power connections behind it.

That would do the trick.

I've seen it done that way.

Hi guys thanks for the suggestions

Flere I see your point about the shelf but I think that will not suit this application as the door to the left of the TV is my laundry and i walk past this all the time .  I think that the power board on the back of the TV would be just a good a solution.  It could sit on the 2 prongs from the Foxtel STB

I don’t mind the BlueLounge Cable box for the moment and the tail is quite good. I’m quite fond a good tail lol.  But seriously if it was in a grey (thanks Steph) I would prefer that to black or white.  Grey blends in with more.  But the black is ok for the moment with the black box.

I didn’t really want to be building another fake wall.  if i were to do any construction in that room I would change my sliding door for a french glass door and put the sliding mechanism in the door frame (pocket door style).   But i do love that idea of just having a small area where it can all be fed in to but not for the moment.

Markie I also have the A2 (if thats what you mean) or do you mean the iPad dock?  Both units are great :-)

Have any of you tried those flat cables that came on the market some years ago?

I remember thinking how amazing they were, as they would disappear on the wall, becuase you could paint over them.

Soon moving to new apartment, and I am concidering to use those for my rear speakers.

I googled, and found flatwirestore, but I dont know if these are the "originals" nor the best.

Would be nice if anyone has any experience to share.

My aerial cable is a flat cable oddly enough.  i think it's a 1960s special when the house was built. It was still ok to put them in the cable sock from what  i saw.

You could also consider my solution... my rear speakers are using the Wireless Receivers - they work a treat and they are very very small.

I'm old school when it comes to speakers and cables. Cables as far as it is possible.

Have you thought of the possibility of a fake wall or floating wall behind your tv?

Great way to hide away your extra equipment :)

Hi MM,

Forgot to respond.  Yes the TV provider is broadcasting in stereo, it's just when the news is on i just prefer the mono.  I think if the makers of the Avant didn't intend to make all 3 as a centre then there wouldn't be the option?  What happens when there are other front speakers in the mix and the 3 Avant speakers become the centre?

But i do like your suggestion to create another speaker group with L, C, R and i could use that for the majority of the shows i watch.  I did also notice that once i used all 3 avant speakers as a centre, i thought it sounded pretty good.

I also love the 5 speakers too.

I was watching a movie and the dolby splash screen with the audio came up and I realised at that point that it might pay down the track to incorporate a subwoofer because i remember that same splash screen when came on with my sony the room mooooovvvvvveeeddddd lol

In fact you can make any speaker any channel, you like.

You could make all your speakers 'left surround', if you want to. But that would not make much sense.

If you have external speakers configured as 'left front/right front', you of course mostly would set all three internal speaker to 'center'.

But - you could also set the internal speakers to 'left front/center/right front' - I'd say, depending on which external (front) speakers and where they are located.

Just try it out to see what fits you and the room best. You can always rearrange or delete the group, if you are not satisfied.

Did you watch the Geoff-video, that I linked to?

Personally I would not want two different speaker groups for watching tv - if I just had the speakers of the Avant.

(If I had external front speakers as well, I maybe would create a second 'quiter one' for late night listening with only the internal speakers playing).

It is too much fiddling changing between the two groups all the time. Set the 'left front/center/right front' as the default group for the tv source (that is done in the source settings) and let the TrueImage sound engine handle the sound, if the sound input changes from mono to stereo (and back).

P.S. A sub is a good idea - I already suggested the S8 set.

Thanks MM I will try that setting.

And yes thank you for the link with the video, i did see that :-)

I saw you suggested the S8 but i got confused as you said BS8 and i thought... i just sold my BS8, and how would that work.  But yes the S8 is a good idea and being that it's black it could fit ok - but then there's more wires.  I can't afford a BL19, so i was even thinking a BL11.  I'm not sure how much the S8 even costs, but I read here previously that it's a great value sub.

I know what you mean about the swapping of the speaker groups, and I was thinking i wonder if I can make one of the colour buttons on my remote be a "shortcut" to speaker groups :-)
