Think yourself lucky! Apparently there were 6 hour queues to leave a southern England shopping centre yesterday! I'd rather spontaneously combust!!

I managed to do all (..most all) of the shopping on Monday and it was surprisingly calm them. Wouldn't have liked to be there today. There was no work today and the sun was shining so I took a walk to the seaside, probably the first time I've properly seen the sun for weeks. Quite refreshing. It's been a record warm December (sunday was +11C) so there's no snow, but still the length of the day is less than six hours at this latitude.

Holy carp! Makes me realize just why I've not gone Christmas shopping in a traditional brick and mortar store for well over a decade and a half. I did take my wife to a high end yarn store last week and let her go wild in the hand dyed silk yarn section, that cost me but she's just little girl happy playing with her yarn, which makes it all worth it.

For me, I have a license to shop for myself, as the only things I really wanted (new trigger for my AR, laser sight for my carry pistol) are things she can't easily figure out what I want.

Hope it goes well! Must be uncomfortable in the interim I'd imagine.

I had a friend who's gall bladder went septic on him, he said he got into the emergency room quickly with almost no wait as they said his screams were upsetting the other patients in the waiting room. Hope yours is nowhere near as bad as that, but I've known a few appendix cases where the people were in real pain.

Hope you feel better soon! Heck of a way to spend the holidays.

Cheers Jeff, but I'm fine.  They shrunk it back to its normal size with a six day drip, but it is likely to reoccur within 18 months, that's why they're taking it out. I'm in no pain at all at the mo.

Big Smile It's a museum (closed for renovation) nearby. Going past it makes a nice 5 km / 1 hour walk through some semi-forests and the seaside that really clears your head, so I visit there quite often.

This is where I slept in my car that night.  When I woke up, hundreds of tourists were all around my car. I just brushed my teeth, washed my face, ate my Sugar Puffs and boiled up the kettle for a coffee.
No-one batted an eyelid!

Well, I'm glad to hear they got it under control so you're not in agony until the surgery. Probably an easier surgery if it's not infected and inflamed when they yank it.

Things like this are one of the reasons that I like living in the present. One friend was discussing how he'd like to live in the past, and asked me if I wanted to live in Ancient Rome since I am a big Roman history buff. No, I said, two words...medicine and dentistry. If I was living in Roman times I'd have been dead for 30 years or so, the only reason I'm alive is modern medicine.

Don't even need to go that far... over here, the life expectancy has risen by more than 10 years since the start of the 1970s. The average length (I mean - ahem - tallness Big Smile ) of men has gone up by 5 cm in that time. Around 1867, 8% percent of the population died of famine.
