I've heard from a local B&O dealer, that B&O is busy with testing some new software for the BS5.
That was 2 months ago, he had a BS5 with the Beta-version running, but could not (not allowed to) tell me more about the changes.
Fingers crossed, hope good news will follow soon.
Prices of BS5 systems are dropping verry hard. A secondlife dealer only gives me 600-650 euro's for my BS5 system

Fake...
Why do you think that?
I find it highly unlikely for Bang&Olufsen to further develop on an old system like Beosound 5.
i wish the would come up with a solution, Deezer etc, just don't see I happen. Could be wrong though.

my dealer didn't know that
You are absolutely right about Spotify. But when I bought the BS 5, the seller promised that Spotify also came available. So, I bought it also with this promiss. And in my opinion b&o is handling this very bad.
About the www: thanks, i didn't realise this.
Sorry for the dubblepost.

Time for a change - your visitors seems to be lusting for something new ;-0
Duels:Last night, for the first time ever, my B&O setup (BS5 and BL18s) failed to get a "wow" from visitors.

It might be easier to get new friends who have not seen the BS5 before.
Duels: Always an option. But what to get.........?
Always an option. But what to get.........?
That is a good question, that nobody can answer without knowing the preferences of the owner.
The BS5 was launched as a file player (the files being on the BM5) - the focus was on MOTS.
And then there was the netradio function (way before most other A-companies even thought of internet radio).
Added was the DLNA function and - later on - Spotify.
On Beoworld there have always been - as on any audio-site - great/hard discussions about playback of lossy vs lossless audio files.
And often people loved the BS5 because it could play their lossless files well - looking great too.
Since the loss of Spotify everybody seems to have bought the BS5 because of Spotify playback.
If you are fine with Spotify, there is no way around using the Spotify app (looks great on an iPad imo) - Spotify is quite determined there.
Even on my Squeezebox (-server) the support for Spotify has stopped - yesterday!
Some plug a Cast or AirPlay or maybe a bluetooth receiver into the BM5 and are happy (as happy as can be) with that.
Others (like myself) use the Essence 2nd gen with a dedicated iPad for playback of all kinds (your guests should be happy with bluetoothing to it).
I am not sure, whether I dare suggest the BS Moment. But I am pretty sure, that it will work fine, if it is used as a streaming service player and netradio player only (Deezer not Spotify) - MoodWheel and PatternPlay being the modern equivalent of MOTS.
However, if you are more into playback of your own lossless files, there is no reason to get rid of the BS5.
Then there is the question of ML vs NL. Those who have a nice ML setup most likely won't want to change to NL (and/or use a NL/ML Converter) just because Spotify stopped on their player.
Hard to give an advice - but meanwhile nobody is adviced to hope for getting Spotify back as was.
The ChromeCast Audio should be more than good for streaming quality:
http://archimago.blogspot.de/2016/02/measurements-google-chromecast-audio.html
If you are into airplaying, a (hardwired) Playmaker could do the trick.
And you could connect a good BT receiver to the line-in of it - to avoid sharing your private network with your visitors.
The Essence is sort of overkill, I think.
Duels:And that's the problem. I like my ripped CDs but stream most of the time. An essence added to the BS5 feels a bit cumbersome. Not sure about chrome cast quality.
Hi Duels,
Glad to hear that you got everything sorted out, it was a pleasure to be able to help (I also got a chance to hear the superb Beolab 50s whilst delivering your USB adapter to Nick at the Sheffield store!)
If anyone else wants to get Spotify working again on their Beosound 5, all you need is a Google Chromecast Audio and this USB adapter to connect it to the Beomaster 5 USB port:-

For BeoWorld members, I'm happy to include a free 1m minijack to twin RCA cable with the USB adapter to connect the two together - please email me to request this when you order the adapter.
Kind regards, Steve.
Steve.

Hi Griebel,
For those customers whose dealer can't/won't help, I can get them back on Spotify again. For customers like Duels who have the benefit of an excellent and supportive dealer (in this case Nick at B&O Sheffield) then I can provide the parts and advice to the dealer so that they can get everything working free of charge for their customer.
one point to note about the Chromecast, it is important to check the "higher dynamic range" option within settings to optimise/maximise sound quality rather than the standard setting which is a bit lossy.

The other option is to plug the Behringer USB adapter into a computer and use it as an external sound card. The Beolab 18s can then connect to the minijack or RCA outputs of the Behringer, controlled from your computer.....

I started out using a similar Behringer USB device (the Xenyx 302USB mixer) as an input to my Beosound 9000, then I also found that I used streaming services more than CDs, so Lee kindly arranged to sell the 9000 for me and I now have my Penta 3 and Beolab 3000 speakers connected directly to the Benringer. The sound is superb and easy to control via my PC or the physical volume dials on the USB adapter.
Hello,
My B&O dealer in Belgium informed me last week that B&O offers a price reduction of 20% on
for customers that own a Beosound 5 as compensation for the loss of Spotify functionality.
I think I will go for the Beosound Core.
Luc
Hey,
I cannot accept an offer like this. This is the margin a dealer has on B&O equipment (before bonus). So they don't do any effort at all. 40% would be more acceptable as you still will not have the comfort of use as you had before.
I also refuse to pay 500euro to get a (lesser) function than something which worked perfectly until two months.
my current best solution is that i connected a chromcast (without hassle and the bad sound of the behringer) directly to my Bv7-40 (programmed as DTV2) so in my link rooms I press DTV2 and on my linktv's A-DTV2 (provided that this port is not used locally for anything else). And what is important this works even when someone is watching the BV7-40 or is off.

Everybody here seem to have forget this post : http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/12572.aspx
I had never use Spotify function in Beosound 5, I put spotify directly in Windows on the Beomaster 5 and can use my smartphone or either to control realy much easely has you did before.
No need Chromecast or what else !!
The whole point of Spotify on the BeoSound was that you had a deep integration with the BeoSound 5 interface. The BeoSound Moment gives ever better integration of Deezer.
As of now, Spotify is dead to me. I'm quite happy with Deezer. I've used the Spotizr app recommended in the BeoSound Moment setup to transfer all of my Spotify playlists over to Deezer. It was amazingly easy to do this. Just a few quick clicks. Over 95% of my playlist music was successfully transferred to Deezer. I'll be canceling my Spotify account now.
Hi,
I might have some news on this. Few months ago my B&O dealer said that they would provide a chrome cast and something else for free to be able to use spotify connect.
Then it went silent for a loong time and I contacted them again some weeks ago and they told me they were still testing a solution.
Today they called me that they are ready to install the solution on the 12th. I asked if this was the chrome cast solution and they said 'no, that was crap, the sound quality of this other module was very bad' and they got no support from B&O.
This would be an application, still using AUX; but i had to agree that there will be no support on this application should spotify 'change something again'. So i wonder if this is the solution that's mentioned here.
