As far as I can see the switch contacts look good, no external signs of corrosion, what you can see internally is limited even with a magnifier...however when operated there are no crackles or signs of the contacts sticking.
Motor control board next...as with the EL Switch board lots of dust has accumulated on the topside....no components to replace here though so just a good clean is all that's required.
Remote control receiver board next, came out very easily, bit dusty but otherwise looks good, don't know if this works as the commander requires a battery....got one on order.
Certainly worked last time the Beomaster was active. Being ultrasonic, it is not like using a Beolink 1000 though as very directional - you can bounce the sound waves off plates though!

Whilst awaiting delivery of the last 0.1uf caps for the remote control board I decided to start the rebuild of the indicator tapes using Rudys new V clamps, it is a bit fiddly but I found a couple of pieces of blu tack holding the tapes in place helped
The rest went quite smoothly once I had gained a little confidence that the V clips were not going to snap under pressure from a pair of engineers pliers
Finished up on the remote control board and slotted it back into place, followed by the motor/clutch frame complete with tapes. This proved a bit of a challenge too, ensuring that none of the irritating single strand wires snapped under the stress of re assembly
At this point I had to have a further check around under the magnifier for detached wires then powered up, had to satisfy myself that the motor/clutches and tapes all moved as smoothly in the horizontal as they had in the vertical, everything looks good this far.........
Had to have a bit of a listen before I closed down for the night, bass sounds a bit heavy but otherwise I think its sweet........
This seemed like a good time to adjust the quiet current by measuring across the two output transistors and setting at 14.4.....tricky to get it exactly right with the pifer pots.
Rebuild well under way now.....tuning indication back in place and ready for the new cord.
New cord is a little heavier gauge than the original but hasn't been a problem, feels smooth enough.
Putting things back loosely for now, wanted to test the keypads out, also need to finish the crossovers on the S45-2 speakers.
Also ordered up some plastic polish to get to work on the cover, got some marks and scratches but nothing too serious....hard to get a good picture.
Back in business...........
I eventually got all four S45-2 speakers connected in the right places for their position around the room, still need to re cap the crossovers in two of them though, and found quite a lot of quadraphonic stuff on you tube....some of which sounds very good through this system, some is rubbish too.....but the good stuff is very effective........makes a nice addition to my growing (to my partners dismay) collection ;¬)

Peter: I did have the 6000 repaired when I bought it and have found the repair bill from 2002 when it was done. It needed 4x220 Ohm presets, 8x 0.12 Ohm 2.5W resistors7x 12v wedge lamps and 1 sundry!! The parts bill was £23.20 and the labour was £54. Including VAT, the bill came to £90.71. I'll keep it for you and you can have it along with the Beocord 5000 when I see you next! The work was done by the services department of J.G.Windows and they would essentially try to fix anything and I am sure did some things for the love of it and charged me very little. It has to be said that they drew the line at the Beocord 5000!

Ok Peter......I am fully rested now and looking for another challenge, if the Beocord is still available I would like to take it on! I will need to offload a couple of amplifiers and speakers however.... just to make room ;¬)
It is out in the hall - it too has been repaired by Tim in the past but has not been used since it stripped all the magnetic coating off one of my favourite tapes!! Wonderful device though and a real B&O product, unlike almost every other cassette deck. You need to find an original user manual though - they are fantastic (I don't have one!) No holiday for a while but it is yours.
That's very good of you, I will start looking around for a manual (which model No is it?). I am ok all of July but will be windsurfing in Greece again in August, I know I should be slowing down but we do like blasting across the water and of course falling in! Sounds like the 5000 has a mechanical problem as opposed to any electronic issues....though no doubt it will require the usual capacitor and trimmer work carried out.
Just caught up on this thread and I have to say Craig I'm impressed and inspired in equal measure.
As someone with knowledge of the inside of a 6000, how tightly packaged it is and how precarious all the wiring is (but also blessed with no electronic skills) I take my hat off to you!
Mine's sat there looking pretty but kaput, and to top it off I've just bought another one to keep it company - oh the joys of Beovirus!
If you're ever thinking about making this an enterprise let me know as I know someone who may be interested

Thank you for that, it's very good of you....you don't say if the second BM6000 is a functioning unit? if you need any assistance with tho unit that's "kaput" you could drop it off with me and I will take a look for you, however as for turning this sort of thing into an enterprise you have to understand that I rely quite heavily on the expertise of the forum members to help me work through the problems that I come up against doing this.

My wife's been suggesting I lose some of the excess collection as it's taking up too much space (I did consider listing her on eBay ) and I already have a couple of the two head 4705 decks so it made some kind of sense.
Hopefully between Peter's donation and this you'll have the bits you need!

this is very generous of you, I will of course attempt to bring both units back to their best.....and will chronicle the exercise on the forum for everyones further entertainment, Peter advises that these machines are notorious to work with so it should be fun!
