StKong:
luthier:

If Beolab 9's are ordinary penguins, Beolab 50's are Emperor Penguins.

The 12-3 on a stand were penguin-like, too.

I really think these new BL50's look like Pingu:

NOOT NOOT!

Keep them rolling in! Smile

Personally, I like 'Pop Up Speakers' as it kind of says it all, but then 'Batteries' is brilliant...

I'll give it a until Sunday evening, then I'll pool all the suggestions into an email and send them to PrizeDrawBot for judging... Wink

Given the fact the tweeter lens pops up, I kind of like the name "turkey timer."

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

They look like the contours of à French map! So I'd go for the Frenchies!

Reminds me the rocket in Méliès' movie, so "rocket" or "bullet" could make it

Gaz calls them the tulips

He said they are like a tulip and the pop up is the stamen in the middle and the lamelas and cloth are the petals

My wife's suggestion is meerkat, as the top pops up out of a hole like a meerkat checking around

Just asked my wife what she thought of the speakers looking at the manchester shop video : "I don't like them, they look like trash cans".

Now that's a nickname the trash cans !

I personally like them, but not for my wallet.

My girl friend said they look like "perfume bottles".

After seeing the video, they look like "heaters" to me (with the lamellas)

Thinking a little bit more of this, I now/also see them as old car's "radiator grilleIdea

It looks like a kind of Sauna Heater at least from the side where you only see the wood slats... or at least Sauna inspiration....

I do hope she's not implying you're throwing your money away! Whistle

I suppose, though, that if B&O actually did make trash cans, they'd be made of wood and aluminium.

I could just imagine Geoff tuning them so an empty Pepsi can hitting the inside of one gave a flat frequency response so as not to startle wildlife living in or around them... or something.  He'd do that. I know it.

That's it exactly, my wife is correct but I won't win the "competition" with such a nickname !

''Pop Up Speakers' as it kind of says it all

Hmmm, the beam width mechanism and the light are missing here...

If you imagine it's an eye, eyelid going up or down, pupil opening and closing, and you blend this with the pop-up tweeter, it becomes... "Pop-Eye" ! (the sailor man Laughing)

Good evening,

I found something more respectful than a trash can that looks like the Beolab 50: the three sided bottle of the "Dimple Pinch" scotch whiskey.

It did what threads do... drifted off into obscurity whilst I was giving everyone a chance to read it!

Winner will be announced this afternoon, or evening at the latest.  All suggestions have been forwarded to our remote button-pushing metal bon viveur 'Botty' for his circuits to beep over.

Lee

Yes - thumbs up

By the way - in Denmark they are called 'skønheden og udyret' (the Beauty and the Beast),

because they are beautiful, when just standing there....and quite beasty, when they are turned on to play.
