Ricardo: Peter: I think the flat back was made so the speaker looked better mounted on the floor stands. Don't think it made any difference to the sound - is it MDF or is it ply? Also were not the resin back original S45 designed for the trumpet stand or they could also be wall mounted. I had a pair for awhile and it was slighly smaller than the S45-2 but had the same sound quality.

The resin backs have two keyhole positions for screws so that if you use the top keyholes on the angled part of the back the speakers can be wall mounted slightly tilted up. The taper on the fret meant that this resulted in the speaker enclosure being tilted at an angle, but the fret remained almost vertical because of its matching angle taper in the opposite direction.
i originally had my S45's low wall mounted in the upward incline position. I have since relocated them onto high level Ikea wall units to keep them out of reach of grandchildren. Placing the S45's horizontally on the Ikea units seems to have enhanced the bass performance..... it's as if the Ikea units are resonating with the speakers at lower frequencies, and I've stopped needing to use the loudness button on the BM2000 at low volumes.

Interesting that you did that Graham. I had the same results with the bass performance positioning my P30 in the horizontal. Plus i think it looks a lot cooler.
You are both right - I have however never seen S45s on trumpet stands - I would have loved a pair! I keep a pair of S45.2s on stands under my bed - just in case!!

Are you hiding them from the SWMBO or the men in the white coats ?
