New BeoSound Stage!

I borrowed a Beosound Stage (oak version) from my dealer yesterday, to try out in my cinema room.

Room is about 7 meters long and about 3,5 meters wide.

TV (LG OLED B9 65") is centered on the short end of the room.

Current setup is a 9 year old Yamaha surround receiver and Canton 5.1 satellite speakers, a bit older than the receiver.

I arranged the Stage on its side since I did not want to drill it to the wall for this "testdrive".

I connected the Stage to the eARC socket on the TV, and did a factory reset of the Stage. Setup, using the app, was done in a couple of minutes with no hassle.

Source is an AppleTV 4K.

I played pieces from a number of different movies (with and without Atmos) I keep on my NAS using Infuse on AppleTV.

Also, I played Netflix 4K content with Atmos.

I can control everything using my LG remote or the Apple TV remote.

Verdict:

Im totally amazed how immersive experience the Stage provide. The bass is tight and punchy (sound controls on Stage not touched) and there are so much details in the sound. E.g the first minutes of introduction in the Netflix serie "Formula 1: Drive to Survive" (Atmos) totally blew me away.

The Live Aid Concert segment in "Bohemnian Rapsody" really putted me in the middle of the crowd.

Now, I will put my old stuff for sale and put money aside for a Stage :)

This is selectable. This speaker has an option to lie down or to be wall mounted.

When its lying down, then the left and right channel are opposite, of when the speaker is wall mounted.

So when placing 'The Stage' like this, upside down, you would "cheat" and tell the app thats the soundbar is lying down, causing the channels to be at the right position.

Noticed a strange thing when I played around with the borrowed Stage.

It had left / right channels on wrong sides....  I noticed that in a movie clip with clear left to right movement.

I double checked with a test track from Youtube and yes, it was mixed up.

I checked that the position was set right in the app, and it was correctly set as "wall" . I tried to change that to a table placement and that did no change to the sound at all.... 

After doing a factory reset, it was back to a correct setting of the left / right channels and also the toggling of "wall" to "table" made a differens (swapping left to right).

I did the initial setup from a factory reset, so it could maybe be worth for you Stage owners out there to double check that you have your channels "in the right place".

If you can't think of a track to test the left/right audio, I use "Girl you know its true" by Milli Vanilli (yes, I know it is not a great song!)

In the full version (with the conversation at the start), the girl's voice should begin in the left speaker, with the man replying in the right speaker.

Thanks for the tip! It’s weird. I checked it on my Stage, and it was the wrong way (moved it from Table to Wall).

Changing it in the app didn’t work. But changing it through the web panel did!

today i got a BeoSound Stage in Oak to test from my dealer.

I also have a BS Essence with two BL5 connected to it.

My dealer couldn't tell me if the following scenario is possible:

BS Stage via HDMI ARC on Samsung TV and the Essence playing the TV Sound via Networklink from the Stage

I tested now and couldn't get it working.

Maybe i miss something, or is this not possible ?

The Stage is great, but it would be nice if i could activate the BL5 for even more power / fun :)

i cannot link the two products together in the App, so i think its not posslible.

Is the Essence like the Core? I have the Stage, Core and Apple TV connected to a Sony TV, in my experience I can output to both Core connected speakers and Stage at the same time with no delay using AirPlay 2. In my set up the Apple TV is connected to the Sony TV via HDMI and the above works even when my Stage is connected to the TV via HDMI ARC. However, I have my Stage in my dining room, not connected to any display because of how good it sounds in that room 🤷‍♂️ However, I have tried it with my Sony TV as well to test the Dolby Atmos Audio (From Apple TV 4K to Stage (HDMI) and then from Stage to TV (HDMI Arc). So if Essence is like Core and the new Samsung TV has AirPlay 2 support (since I know they have Apple TV built in now) you might be able to get all the system to sync up using Apple AirPlay 2. You can probably do it via Chromecast as well but I haven’t tried it.

Did you experience any sound sync problems?i also have C9 65” and Stage. ATV4K everything is out of sync :-( 

the Stage directly on HDMI ARC is perfectly in sync as far as i see (hear).

The builtin AppleTV app cant play the sound via Airplay to any speakers.
If it can, i dont see it, there is no menu point in the settings, etc.

To my knowledge you can only airplay to the app, not from the app (I.e select airplay speakers)

Software update tonight. I’m at 1.8.37133 now. Anyone knows what’s updated? (Btw: the M3’s are at 1.7.36614 since today)...

Bumping it up as I do have the same question about the sw update... if someone have figured it out what's new in this release?

i would like to realize the following set up:

The computer monitor ... LG 32UL750-W ... that has no HDMI ARC, but 2xHDMI inputs and a 3.5mm audio jack output + 2x USB 3.0 outputs ... shall be used with a Apple-TV 4k (HDMI output) and the Beosound Stage, that has HDMI, HDMI ARC and 3.5mm analog inputs. 

 

I would like to be able to use the set up to watch live tv via the waipu.tv app over the Apple-TV ... and watch netflix, youtube and others. The sound should be delivered from the Beosound Stage. 

Has anybody an idea, how this could be achieved, since the monitor has no HDMI ARC but simple HDMI only? How should the system be connected?

Use a HDMI splitter from the ATV to 1: the monitor and 2: to the Stage....that should do the job.
