Curly:
Alex, how do you compare and contrast your 9 Essence remotes to your 1 Halo? Not to hijack the thread, but I’m curious on your thoughts of the two products

I am in love with the Essence Remote.  It is just simply a perfect device. I love having volume control without needing to grab my phone. I also use Touch to Join a lot.

The Halo is certainly more Eye catching and  if my goal was to let friends know I have been financially successful then it would definitely be my preference. LOL. I so like the volume ring a lot, and find the display useful to pick a specific netradio to listen to. But I feel like the proximity sensor isn’t quite fast enough to feel like response is instant - I often wave my hand then wait for it to come alive.  And I haven’t found the ability to control devices in multiple rooms to be useful. And the incredibly short battery life means I just leave it on a charging pad 95% of the time

I think the ideal device would be an Essence Remote II with an e-paper display of the current album / station information.  It would keep the device simple and have lo battery life while still offering the one thing the Halo has, which is a station display.

I see myself adding more Essence Remotes before adding more Halos.  (I could use one more Essence remote at the door between master bed and master bath)

Sources: 2x Beosound Moment • 4x Beosound Essence Mk II
Speakers: 3x Beolab 8000 • 2x Beolab 6000 • 2x Beolab 3 • 3x Beolab 2
Integrated:  1x Beosound 2 • 1x Beosound Level • 4x BeoPlay M5 • 1x BeoPlay A6
Control:  16x* Essence Remote  • 1x Beoremote Halo

* Yes, really! 🤦‍♂️

Been waiting for a speaker like this. Just to be sure, is it possible to physically turn on the Level and listen to radio without using a phone or tablet? That is my biggest wish.

Thanks for any reply.

I agree it’s a fantastic device.

The only thing I miss with the essence device/core is having a visual display of the volume without having to open the app

Being able to use the MyButtons on the BROne however, would be important - maybe that might come in a future update.

Whether you (for time being) can use the BROne to start the playback (of the last played radio station) or not, is not clear from that description

Apparently there's a new speaker in this same line as Balance and Level coming out in the following months. What I've been told is that it's more column-like,

A BL 28 apparently

Yes... I'm curious to see what it will be as it will be Beolab and not BeoSound...

Ehm, how exactly does this work then?

I understood BS Level is NOT like BS1 / 2 where a tap simply starts radio (TuneIn)

What playback of last played station is used in above example?

As you see in the document - and see from the layout of the buttons on the device, there are 4 MyButtons on the BS Level.

These can be configured e.g. for direct accessing 4 different radio stations.

As for ‘last played source/station’, it would be handy if you could start the station, you played ladt with a push of a button on the BROne.

I guess we will soon know more - surely someone will be able to test it in the shops (or even at home).

This sounds interesting if it can be used as a standalone unit and not too big.

Thanks MM,

I get it with the MyButtons, but what is then the radio source if it is not TuneIn. (edit: B&O radio) I might have missed that, but now people like myself wander in disbelief that the BS Level can’t be used the same way as BS1 / 2 and that perception might be inaccurate. (edit: YES 😀)

Here in the UK the bbc radio stations are no longer available via tunein on new devices and the likes of Google home and Alexa now stream bbc radio from the ‘bbc sounds’ service. Both my essence mk2 and M3 still have access to bbc on tunein however my father’s new stage does not, so there must have been an agreement made for those streams to continue on older devices for a certain period of time.

Going back to the new level though, is the radio only delivered via google assistant?

I wonder, could the streaming module hatch be there to provide an upgrade to support NL in the future??

Yes if I remember correctly the announcement from the BBC and Tunein a while back was that devices which had no obvious alternative way to access BBC radio would maintain access.

Somehow that was applied across some older B&O products with continued access. I haven’t lost BBC on either my BS2 or A9.

Whether that continues or not, I’m not sure

A good question!

And I guess that those, who know the answer won’t tell anything.

However, this is a BS Level thread.

All BBCs have gone from the tunein app, bar world service and BBC Wales, so in my Dad’s case when setting up the stage we couldn’t add the likes of radio 2 and 4 as favourites for the B&O app to use. I suspect if I removed bbc from my favourites in tunein they’ll be gone forever from my essence and play M3.

I’m assuming the BBCs are available under the new B&O radio? Thumbs up if so. Can you have more than 3 favourites via the app? I really hope the next beolit gets this new platform +NL.

Are you comfortable setting up a Raspberry Pi?  I'm using one with VLC and IceCast to receive and re-stream stations that aren't available on TuneIn due to some similar issues in the States.  It works flawlessly, and is fairly inexpensive to set up.  I'd be happy to provide guidance if you have basic comfort using Linux/Unix/Raspberry Pi.

Strange, I literally just played BBC radio 1 on my Stage and also 1 extra here in the Netherlands. Maybe it's a UK only thing as was said earlier, over here you have a hard time getting those any other way?

I went to see this in the store yesterday. Very nicely made, and the buttons on top does exactly what you expect them to do.

Really love it.

I have one thought tho:

-It has Spotify connect. Weren't B&O moving away from Spotify connect?

How long will this feature be available? Can it be removed at any time?

My M3 does not have Spotify connect.

They briefly moved away from Spotify Connect. But are now committed to it again, Balance has Spotify Connect too.

I wonder if this is sign of B&O to skip Deezer and TuneIn and focus on Spotify Connect and B&O Radio.

Spotify has over 140 million paid users. Deezer is quite a bit smaller with its subscriber base of less than 10 million.

Google Home is only supporting Deezer in some countries, so a refocus would make sense.

Consistent Spotify connect across products would be good, but together with NL Join for a multi room experience. Right now I’m loving Deezer through the BeoLiving app (blgw) which is really slick. It’s the experience that should be standard in B&O devices and app. A +1 for Deezer is that allows for each room to be playing different music from one regular deezer account, something Spotify restricts. I would really hope that the NL update to the Level introduces Deezer for consistency with other products.

I like the wood one.  But laying down they both look like an 70's and 80's answering machine.

Or the original Atari 2600 games console! Happy days playing Missile Command and Asteroids on that all those years ago!

B&O products are V1-32, BS2, H95, E8 and an Essence remote.
11-46 now replaced with Sony A90J 65”, Sony HT-A9, Sony UBP-X800M2 and Sony SRS-NS7.

I like the wooden one very much. If only they could soon release an anthracite / smoked oak version.

I find this combination a bit more modern and I would order one immediately.

The oak version looks like a bread cutting board. The other is spot on.

Beovision 7-55 MK1 red, Beolab 10 red. Beolab 50, all black. Beolab 17 broken ice. Beolab transmitter. Apple tv4 and apple express 2.
