I am having issues integrating my beosound 3200 and LG TV audio with my Beolab 1s and Beolab 6000 speakers via the Beosystem 3. The LG TV is connected to the Beosound 3200 via optical audio out to digital to analog converter to mini jack to 7 pin din connected to the beosound 3200 aux port.

The beosound 3200 is then connected to the beosystem 3 via the MasterLink cable and ports on the Beosystem 3 and the Beosound 3200 respectively.

i followed the Beosystem 3 guide and programmed my Beo4 remote. I see menu options on my LG TV (connected via HDMI in (ARC) to DVI-D Display 1 port on the Beosystem 3.

any help controlling my LG TV and Beosound 3200 with the Beo4 would be appreciated. I dont know why the speakers are not channeling the audio to the speakers (connected via PL ports in Beosystem 3 using 8pin din mk3 and Mk2 cables) and integrating properly. Any advice on this matter would be super appreciated. I ve spend quite some time with B&O support on this and Im afraid the nearest dealer is 5 hours away. Ive read to manuals and guide cover to cover.

thank you for kindly considering. Happy to describe further as needed to express a clearer picture :-)

Hi and welcome to the Beoworld forum.

Since you intend to use the A.Aux/BS3200 via the converter, you must be aure, that the LG-tv outputs the sound as 2 channel stereo sound (PCM) and not multi-channel Dolby 5.1 digital sound.

You do not write which LG tv you have - please consult the user guide/the sound settings of the tv for choosing the right output format.

Most (small) digital to analog converters do not accept the multi channel 5.1 DD output.

Easiest way to know if the sound arrives at the BS3200 (since you have no speakers there) is to connect a set of headphones and choose the AUX input manually.

I assume, that the BS3200 is set to A.Option 0 (and the BSys3 to V.Option 2), since you want the sound to be linked to the speakers connected to the BSys3.

This said....there are other ways to configure a setup like this. Some beoworlders do this, there are some threads about it here, maybe some of these will explain their setup, if you wait a while.

Your comments breathes new life into my AV project and I really do appreciate your comments :-)

The LG TV i have is model number 55UK6200PUA. Another wrinkle to this setup is that the LGTV doesnt seem to have an HDMI OUT port, only HDMI IN. The only audio out is optical. I can confirm the Beosound 3200 does in fact receive and transmit audio to the speakers successfully when i move the 8 pin din mk2 cables to the Bs3200 din ports from the beosystem 3.

ive pressed A.aux and set the V.Option to 2 and A.Option to 0 as you duly mentioned. Very open to get this setup properly and try other cables and methods for true 5.1 setup with the Beosystem 3.  The other related issue is when connecting the beosound3200 to the beosystem 3 via master link, the beo4 remote no longer controls it or interacts with it.

im wondering if a optical audio to spdif audio converter and then spdif coax cable may trasnmit 5.1? So the LG TV send it directly to the beosystem 3 without going through the beosound 3200 at all.

Will standby for further guidance

Usually a tv has no HDMI output ports (since they are there for showing what is piped into them.

However modern tv’s has the socalled HDMI/ARC function - this means that sound from the tv can be channeled out (Audio Return Channel).

There are HDMI/ARC to optical converters out there, that may be used for connecting the sound to the BSys3 - however, this has coaxial digital inputs.....which means either find one with a coaxial output or use an optical to coax converter in addition. (This would allow for multichannel sound).

This means that you will have to configure the BSys3 to open this input (see user guide....) and then use the LG remote for controlling the tv.

(Again there are some solutions that allows for PUC controlling of the LG-tv as well - see: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/43717.aspx )

You do not mention, whether you want to use the internal apps and the tuner of the LG for your daily viewing or not!

In case you’d rather use an AppleTV-HD and or the Chromecast..... for viewing, the setup could be rather simple.

Just connect the ATV/the CC device directly to the BSys3 and configure the choosen inputs (Note: if you want to control the ATV with the Beo4, you’d need the right PUC entry in the system). The LG tv would then just be a display.

The downside here will be that you will ‘only’ have picture in HD/2K format and not the 4K, that is supported in the LG tv. However with a 55” tv you probably won’t notice much difference anyway.

As you see: there are different solutions - I hope this is something that helps you deciding what to do.

With the BSys3 in Option 2 and the BS3200 in option 0 all controlling is done via the BSys3 (you have an ir-eye connected there, right?) The ir reception of the BS3200 is disabled, since you have no speakers connected there.

If you control the BS3200 manually this should turn on the BSys3.

You are a wizard and really kind to think of all the angles. this a very viable solution (ATV, coax converter etc) im going to get those and give it a shot :-) very much feeling grateful for your brainpower and encouragement.

is there a specific model / generation of the Apple TV you recommend? When i conigure the AV input sockets in the BeoSys3 Menu i see Apple Tv as an option. I was originally hoping to use my LG TV internal apps but see how ATV may be easier thank to your kind suggestions . Also will I be able to control the Apple TV with the Beo4 remote? That would be ideal.

as far as controlling the Beosound 3200, i do have the IR eye in the right location thanks to Steve at Sound heavenly :-) and the correct A. And V. Options selected. So its perplexing that it doesnt respond to even CD or Radio via the Beo4 remote. Any further guidance would be appreciated to get them integrated, i feel like something is missing. Maybe the Beosys 3 need codes for the Beosound 3200?

my LG TV is older and doesnt have 4k, so not too concerned about TV resolution at this stage. As far as the Hdmi In /ARC port goes i have that on my LG TV but it is being used to connect it to the Display 1 / DVI-D porr on the Beosys3, are you staying that i can send audio from that HDMI IN/ARC port to the beosystem3 via the DVI-D Display 1 port too? Lastly any elaboration on opening the input as mentioned would be great. I attempted to follow the manul + guide but get rather easily confused ;-)

just comparing options before I go with the ATV and coaxial  spdif/ optical converter.

Quick follow up…Regarding setting the right PUC entry for controlling the ATV with Beo4 via Beosys 3, do i need to send it to the dealer for them to install the PUC codes if i already see it as a configuration / connection settings option? Also I need another deficated IR blaster to connect to the AV groups control port for the ATV right?

much appreciated!

What I have described are two (rather) different solutions.

Either you simply use the LG-tv as a monitor or you try to get decent aound out of the LG piped into the BSys3....with all the controlling issues, that you will have.

My advice for you would be to do the first - din’t spend time and efford on getting sound out of the LG (no need for the converters there).

Just connect the output of the Beosystem (in your case the DVI with a HDMI adapter) to the first HDMI input of the LG.....that will give you picture and the BSys3 menu.

(If this does not turn on the tv, you will have to use the LG remote for that. Again there is a PUC solution for doing this with the Beo4 via the BSys3 - but for time being start without thinking of that. Forget ARC - no use for that in this configuration).

Then connect anything else to the BSys3 - go for the ATV4/HD, a CC device, if needed, a bluray player, if wanted. You can use the tuner/s of the BSys3, if you like and if you have access to the signal/s - or connect an external tv/sat/fibre box for regular tv. The speakers are already in place , as I understand.

(N.B. the app on a tv are relatively fast outdated - the apps on an ATV gets updated regularly.....or you can easily just exchange it with a newer version or another similar device).

As for the connection via Masterlink between the Beosystem 3 and the Beosound 3200 - this should work out of the box (with the right option settings).

You should try another Masterlink cable!!!

Also, it is always a good idea to turn off the power on both devices for a couple of minutes, when you have made changes in the option settings.

By the way - this not so much about ‘brainpower’. It is much more about having experience.........and having the time to share this here.

If you see the entry for the Apple codes there, they are there - you just assign these, when configuring the HDMI port, wherevthe ATV is connected.

And of course you will need the ir cable/the one with a minijack connector. This must be connected to the ir-output, you choose setting up the HDMI/ATV on the Beosystem 3 and the other end put on to the front of the ATV box. See the User Guide for more.

In this case you only need one - If you want to connect further devices you of course need more - the CC device can not be PUC controlled......since there is nothing to control ;-)

Hi MM, I am making steady progress, and almost can’t believe my eyes, I see the picture but its not steady! I went ahead and chose the first option you described. I got a Apple TV 4k, and it works great when i connect it directly via HDMI cable to the LG TV, but when i connect it to the HDMI IN port on the Beosystem 3, and then use the DVI-D OUT Display 1 port wIth an adapter to HDMI to the LG TV, the picture flickers constantly every 1 second.

Maybe i should I have gone with the Apple TV 4th gen /HD instead as you mention but the guy at the store convinced me they are all reverse compatible and I feel for it haha.

I’ve gone into the Apple TV settings and chose video settings as 1080p SDR 60 hz (for US) but it still happens. I checked all HDMI ports on the Beosystem 3 and LG Tv, swapping them out, but each port gets the same result. I wonder if there is a setting in the Beosystem 3 I need to change in the service menu somehow?

On my beosystem 3 i have used the CONNECTION Av1 as TV and chose the Set-top box to be Apple Remote (26) and designatedw the correct HDMI by letter input (A). Not sure if the beosystem 3 is compatible with the new Apple TV 4k or I need the right / updated PUC codes given their remote and box has changed? I also plugged an IR blaster into the control port of the AV1 group. I also added AppleTV to my Beo4 remote under the LIST button.

I’m in the final stretch and so close I can taste success... One thing I saw on the Apple TV support page is that they recommend using an HDMI 2.0 cable, but given my existing HDMI cable works directly to the LGT TV i suspect its something to do with Beosys3 settings.

Looking forward to your guidance! Fully agree its a combo of brains and experience and I’m learning a lot :-)

Yes, the HD version would have been sufficient - it troubles me though, that you still have these issues after setting the resolution to 1080p.

If you do a google search for ‘appletv flickering’, you might get some hints.

Also the HDMI ports on the BSys3 are old, there might be a HDCP problem (which can be worked around, if…)

You should try another HDMI cable, or even change to the HD version instead of the 4K (if possible).

Also turning off the system from the mains for half a minute or so after new connections is a good idea.

All HDMI inputs on the BSys3 will work the same - don’t think of changing anything in the service menu….unless the former owner had made some changes before.

Even if it is the previous version of the Apple-PUC, you have the basic controls - so try this first, before deciding if it is worth it to have the system updated with a newer version.

One more thing to concider in a further step:

From your first post I understand that you have BL1’s and BL6000’s connected to the system.

However, you won’t be able to set these up for multichannel/surround unless you also have a center channel speaker connected/configured.

Just in case you are wondering!

You can set the two pairs up as ‘double stereo’, but that does not make much sense imo.

MM, It is a glorious day, after hours of troubleshooting I finally found the issue with the flickering, i had to set the video resolution to 1080p at 50 Hertz (usually reserved for Europe). Typically in the US it is 60 hertz! It was a small thing in the end that dragged out for hours, but now the picture is stable and the sound is in perfect harmony :-) so happy to have had your creative problem solving approach , I would have never gotten it set up on my own really. You really saved the day.

the Apple Remote code I have pre installed on the Beosys3 allows me to shut off and turn on the new Apple TV 4k , but i cant navigate through the menu or do anything further with my Beo4, so i resort to using the Apple Remote for now. i suspect the PUC codes need to be updated along with the LG TV codes too, which Ill mail it halfway across the country to the service store - unless you or someone happens to know if I can obtain and install the latest codes myself by chance?

you have perfectly anticipated my next move ;-) and I am simply awaiting the center beolab 7.4 to arrive, to complete my 5.1 setup. Im slowly getting more familiar with the menus and settings so feeling great overall about what ive tested so far!

the last real issue that remains is integrating my beosound 3200. I also suspect it may be a cable i just got from Ebay. I confirm the V.option (2) and A.option (0) and turned it off for a while then on, but the beosound 32000 remains inoperable (as you explained already which is normal). My next step is trying another one.

Overall, this really seemed impossible for months and now its actually done and very much thanks to your kind guidance and taking the time! I cant thank you enough really, everyone (dealers, B&O, sellers etc) i spoke with directed me to a technican but your openness make all the difference

As a follow up to the Beosound 3200 issue over Masterlink, i still dont have it working but read on another thread back in year 2020 that by turning Power Saving Mode off in from Menu and choosing Options, this will enable Masterlink connections. The thing is I dont see Power Saving Mode as an option in the Menu. Perhaps the Beosystem3 software needs to be updated?

The person in the thread I am referencing mentioned having the same issue but no reply thereafter so assuming it was fixed somehow, but maybe its my wishful thinking

It’s been a joy trying to help you.

You are a quick learner and - first of all - you provide immediately feedback here.

I have often experienced people asking for advice here - after spending time on trying to help, I often never hear from he/she, who asked again.

That is very disappointing……but such seems to be life.

This way the thread here can provide help for other people with the same setup wishes - so thanks for your feedback.

Would be nice if you could post a couple of pictures, once you are done……beoworlders are very keen on photos of other peoples setup 🤗

Enjoy your setup - and enjoy the movies and the music.

Take your time to play a bit with the placement of the ir-blaster - maybe even with the help of a friend…

It can be tricky to find the right place.

If you have the possibility for sending/bringing the BSys3 to a (skilled) technician for updating the firmware, you should indeed also ask for the latest Apple codes.

The LG codes won’t help you in this setup. They may be helpfull, if you at some point decide to change the setup e.g. if you buy a bigger and 4K screen/LG tv.

Have a look here: https://archivedarchivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/31193.aspx

for information on firmware versions of the BSys3.

You can not do this sort of updating yourself - the technician (again, who knows howto) needs the socalled Configuration Tool for that - it is not a free sw.

It is much more about having experience.........and having the time to share this here.

neerrao:

Quick follow up…Regarding setting the right PUC entry for controlling the ATV with Beo4 via Beosys 3, do i need to send it to the dealer for them to install the PUC codes if i already see it as a configuration / connection settings option? Also I need another deficated IR blaster to connect to the AV groups control port for the ATV right?

much appreciated!
