I have decided I should upgrade my turntable, seen as have fallen in love with Bang and Olufsen I would like an old beogram.
My dream turntable is a Beogram 4000 however currently they are out of my league.
Can someone please suggest a good starter turntable for me.
Any help would be appreciated

To give you a recommendation, I would need additional information.
1. What is your comfortable price range?
2. Are you looking for one that needs no refurbishment or can you DIY?
3. You mentioned the 4000; how important is linear tracking?
4. Realizing that B&O no longer makes cartridges but Soundsmith does, which model(s) would you be looking at?

Anything under £500.
Sort off-I would only do it for a Beogram 4000-this an idea I do love as I’d get my dream and I would be very determined to learn and study about the turntable mechanically.
Not at all-I love the 4000 due to its sound,looks and quality.
I’d just get what I can afford and what fits-please do be aware the cartridge cost isn’t included in the £500.

Based upon your responses I believe a Beogram 4004 would be within your budget. I picked one up with an MMC20EN cartridge that needed a bit of TLC recently for $450 on eBay. Most of the time the ones for "parts or repair" have only minor issues which can be fixed with a few parts and knowledge available here and on the Beolover site. I would steer clear of the earlier 4000 and 4002 models as they are more difficult to bring back and have more obsolete parts.

Judgeing by the description can anyone tell me what they suspect the issue to be and most importantly would this later come and prevent me from playing singles

Yes, I agree the start issue may be as simple as a servo belt. However, there also is a speed stability issue even though reported on only 45 could be more serious if it’s the motor and not simply the speed relay. This model has many mechanical elements that were improved in later series. If you are not comfortable with electronic and mechanical tech work, I would pass as you will also need to spend $200 - $800 on a cartridge.

Yes, that was a reference to another auction that I was going to recommend as an alternative at https://www.ebay.com/itm/284364178648 which likely needs a servo belt.
Too expensive for a less than perfect deck. I’d pass on that one.
