Enable / Disable Retail mode on Beoplay A1, A2 Active, P2, Beolit 17

ENABLE RETAIL MODE

How to update the A1, A2 Active, P2 and Beolit 17 to retail mode


Enabling the retail mode in our B&O PLAY products enhances the consumer experience. This ensure that the B&O PLAY
POS speakers are always powered on, the speakers are set to maximum volume and have disabled Bluetooth.

THE SPECIFIC ADVNTAGES OF THE RETAIL MODE
The retail mode will have the following advantages on the speaker:
• If the speaker is powered via the POS display, the speaker will not turn off/go into idle mode. The speaker will automatically
turn off if power is disconnected to the display. When the power is reconnected, the speaker will automatically turn on.
• The Bluetooth function will be disabled so that the speaker always works optimal with the music from the display
• All buttons on the speaker are disabled. This ensures that the speaker will always work optimal with the display
• The speaker will be set at maximum volume to ensure the most impressive demo experience. The user can adjust volume
on the display


INSTRUCTIONS
Cables needed:
For the A1:
For the A2 Active:
For the Beolit 17:
For the P2:     You need to use the USB C to USB A cable (included in the A1 packaging)
You need to use the USB C to USB A cable (included in the A2 Active packaging)
You need to use the USB C to USB A cable (included in the Beolit 17 product)
You need to use the USB C to USB A cable (included in the P2 packaging)

1. Download Beoplay software updater (February 2021): https://support.bang-olufsen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041405132-beoplay-software-updater

2. For A1, A2 Active, Beolit 17 and P2: Open the Beoplay software updater, see below screen (on the left)
press: control + Shift + K to open the retail mode function (see below screen on the right)

3. Insert the identifier code (see below specific identifier code needed) and press continue:
a. For A1 insert the following identifier code: A1_ sw5.0.6_ShopMode_V5
b. For A2 Active insert the following identifier code: A2_Active_sw1.0.2_ShopMode
c. For Beolit 17 insert the following identifier code: Beolit17_sw1.0.0_ShopMode
d. For P2 insert the following identifier code: P2_sw1.0.5_ShopMode
For P2 on the P2 Countertop display insert the following identifier code: P2_ sw1.0.2_ShopMode

Trouble shooter:
Do you experience an ERROR message? Be sure there is no space before or after the identifier
code when you insert it into the Beoplay software updater program



4. Follow the instructions
a. Troubleshooter: If the installation does not begin (please wait a few seconds): try to turn off the
speaker. If this does not work try to restart computer and try above again. If the software still does not
begin to install, try to put speaker into update mode by pressing ‘volume up’, ‘volume down’ and ‘power’
at the same time, and wait for red light to light up on the speaker.
If the software cannot recognize the speaker please be sure the speaker is charged and not blinking
red/orange, if that is the case charge the speaker and try above again.
b. The last 1% from 99% will take longer to install, that is normal.
c. If you cannot install, ensure that the product has the most resent software installed
i. Open the Beoplay software updater, see below screen
ii. Choose the speaker you want to update
iii. Follow the instructions to update to the most recent software

5. Wait a couple of minutes until update is finished

6. The speaker is now updated to store mode, check for confirmation message

7. To check if the speaker has been properly put into the store mode: Remove the power cable, if the speaker turns
off immediately and turns on immediately when the power cable is inserted again in the speaker – that means
the speaker has the been successfully updated to the store mode. IMPORTANT: The P2 will not turn off
automatically.

8. The products can now be mounted on the POS displays. Follow the mounting instructions placed in the POS
display packaging

DISABLE RETAIL MODE

INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REVERSE RETAIL MODE
Cables needed:
For the A1: You need to use the USB C to A cable (included in the A1 packaging)
For the A2: You need to use the USB to USB mini cable
For the Beolit 15: You need to use the USB to USB mini cable
1. Download Beoplay software updater: (Link February 2021): https://support.bang-olufsen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041405132-beoplay-software-updater

2. Open the Beoplay software updater and select the product you want to reverse from below symbols:

a. Troubleshooter:

Why?.....

Because then you could use these speakers as a ‘normal’ speaker.

The retail mode was originally aimed at the devices on display in the non-B&O shops.

They could easily be connected to a music player of some kind and the costumer could swap between the different models and choose different tunes in order to compare/audition the Beoplay devices.

No dealer involved and the devices could be secured in the display.

Anyone know if Beolit 12 and Beosound 8 can be put in retail mode?
