Just to let you know, that on the "new" beo4 I got with my BV11, I can add YOUTUBE under list.

That's a new easy direct access.

I tried to add it on my parent's beo4 (one year old BV11) and it doesn't exist.

A shame thought that SPOTIFY is not (yet) on the list.

Hi Keith

I so have a Beo4 with joystick that came with my BV11 in February. Is this the mentioned 171x? I could not find Apple on it. Is it possible to add it?

Thanks

There are a few points to note about the upgraded Beo4 (Type Number 171X)

  • If you have a faulty Beo4 type 16XX and you order a new PCB you will receive a new PCB along with a keypad for Beo4 type 1710, a joystick and an instruction describing the different button layout and how to service. In other words an upgrade kit from Beo4 16xx to Beo4 1710
  • The software is displayed on Beo4 by pressing STAND-BY (RED DOT) and LIST simultaneously, then MENU and GO/simultaneously to see EEPROM version.
  • Apparently B&O started to phase in the new Beo4 (171X) PCB's at the beginning of 2013, so even if you purchase a product with a Beo4 in early to mid 2013, you may still only have the older version depending how long the product has been in stock with B&O/dealer

You probably need a newer SW-version for that.

Mine is 8.00.

Note: the dealers can not update the software of a Beo4!

What can be done is: bring an 'older' Beo4 (most people have more) to a dealer and let it upgrade with the new PCB and the new 'pad' with the cursor.

These is an extra upgrade kit for that!

This way you can get a 'brandnew' Beo4 for about 50% of the costs of a new, by the way.

(N.B. I just saw that Keith already posted that.)

That is what I did, when I bought my V1-32 recently.

A very interesting thing is the fact, that the entries in the 'list' of an up-to-date Beo4 don't match the possibilities for mapping the sources in the V1 (I guess in the BV11/12 as well), which has the newest SW-version.

Example: I could not find/choose 'Youtube' as I wanted to map the youtube-app - I had to use (in my case) V-MEM.

But YOUTUBE is in the 'list' of my Beo4 Crying

Now the youtube-app starts if I push 'V-MEN' (of cource) - but also if I push YOUTUBE from the 'list'.

And with the Spotfy-source you can choose to map it to Spotify, but there is no SPOTIFY in the 'list'.

I did not want to use the default 'CD' and picked from the Beo4-list CD2 - but, alas, no CD2 to map on the V1. So I ended up with mapping it to CD for now.

Quite odd, I think.

I had supposed, that borh 'lists' should correspond, if the latest updates are on both.

By the way: does anyone know what the command A-APPLE is supposed to do?

I had hoped for a function like the good old combo AV/APPLE to start the BV/V in audiomode (without turning on the screen).

But it does not work that way!!!

You (still) have to to turn on the screen (pushing APPLE or the mapped button) and then use P.MUTE to turn it off again - if you just want to listen via AirPlay.

The funny thing is that long long time ago, when the Beo4 was realeased, my dealer explained to me that it was flashable. He opened the battery lid and showed a series of pins.

The dealers where supposed to have a tool to flash it with extra commands. Obviously that never happened.

Appearantly as the Beo6 is phases out, the Beo4 needs to be updated with friendlier source names.

It can be flashed - but only in Struer.

Maybe we should all take a trip to Struer with our Beo4's....

....to let them update 🚌

My beo4 with joystick does not show any EEPROM. When I press stand by + List it has ADD, move, remove, zone, option, config, mode and reset.

What is MODE and what can I do in Config?

And finally. Where so I see the SW version?

Thanks

Thanks Keith. This is what you wrote and I read before.

But I do not have GO, I have the Joystick instead and if I press it's with the Menu button nothing happens. What do I wrong?

Your beo4 is in mode 3, I guess. Did you already try PLAY, instead of the centre button?

Or switch to a different mode and try again.

It. was in Mode 1 and I switched to 2. Then it worked with menu + joystick

It shows EE 0.40 and SW 7.00

Guess this men's it is too old.

Another that came with the BV11 shows EE 0.62 and SW 7.00.

What does Mode mean?

MODE 1 is used to enable the CURSOR, SELECT and BACK functionalities. If you change to MODE 1, this will not change the operation of other buttons and LIST functions. MODE 1 and 2 are necessary to enable the CURSOR etc. and to support CONTINOUS command on all present platforms. MODE 1 uses a new IR format for these buttons which will allow CONTINOUS commands on the A and B chassis.

MODE 3 uses the traditional IR format which may work better in some situations e.g. in link rooms, when operating a Main room source on an old TV.

MODE 2 is a compatibility mode where SELECT sends PLAY command (GO), BACK sends EXIT, and the Navigation button is deactivated.  All other buttons are not affected by the MODE setting.
