Hi!I just bought an old beovision 7-40 tv with a beolab 7.4 speaker. I want to connect the tv to my chromecast but dont have a hdmi input. I was looking into different converters, but I'm afraid the sound won't be played trough the speaker anymore if I use these converters while casting. (Or don't work at all). Do you have any advice on which product I should use to fix this problem?

Hi Agnes, welcome to the forum!
DVI does not carry an audio signal, that is correct. What I did to overcome this, is to use an AppleTV of the 3rd generation (this one has an optical Toslink audio output socket). The video goes through an HDMI to DVI cable straight into the TV, where the audio is going through a DAC converter (optical in, analogue out). I found this to work well with my older BeoVision 7-32. It is a bit of a cable salad though
I do not have experience with extracting the audio signal from the HDMI input of a Chromecast, but maybe a fellow BeoWorlder can help you with that.
Regards!
Johan
Hi Johan,Thanks for you very quick and helpfull response!
Good to know that it is possible! I do not own any apple products tho, so I dont know if an apple tv is the most handy option for me... Do you maybe know if there are other samsung/ google/ android related products such as an apple tv that have this toslink audio output socket?
Greetings,
Hdmi to Scart converter ?

Thanks for the tip, just ordered one. Hopefully it wil work, I will let you know!
You should not use such a converter.
You will completely sacrifice picture quality.
I have the 7-40 too (MK 1 type 9351 as you) and has Chromecast connected.
I purchased a HDMI audio extractor.
That way you'll keep the 720p picture quality via HDMI/DVI and connect analogue audio from the extractor to AV4 RCA socket.
Configure AV4 as PC
This one looks identical to the one I use.

Hi!
Thank you for the tip!The link you sent me does not deliver to the netherlands, do you think this one will work as well?https://www.amazon.com/avedio-links-Extractor-Splitter-Converter/dp/B07H94D77VAnd to make sure, i would also need to buy a hmdi to dvi converter right? And what cable do you use to connect the hdmi audio extractor to your tv?
Hi
Based on the images describing the different usecases it should work.
Yes, you'll need at dvi/HDMI adapter too. I use this kind (example)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0773HY2Q7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_1G9xFbS250EFG
For audio you'll need minijack to RCA. Like this one (example).
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FZ78DZ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_AN9xFb0MVKBA2
You will define AV4 as PC in the BeoVision connection menu and connect the RCA cable to the AV4 RCA input sockets of the TV.
On Beo4 add the PC command under the List function
... And obviously a HDMI cable :-)
I use this one from Delock https://www.allekabels.nl/audio-omvormer/1792/1218636/hdmi-naar-hdmi-audio-extractor.html, already for many years between my apple TV (4th generation) and the Beovision 7 mk3 with only DVI input. It is much cheaper on Marktplaats (10-15 euro).
Make sure that your BV7 is HD-ready, because otherwise protected content won't play, like Netflix.
Beosound 5 Encore + Beosystem 5500 + S45.2; BV7-40 MKV + BL7.1 + BL14.4+ AppleTV4; various link rooms with MCL2 A or MCL2 A/V + RL60.2 / CX100 / CX50 & Cona / IWS2000; BG4000; Beosystem 1200 + BV1600.
This particular BV7 is not HD Ready and does not support HDCP
Neither does mine
Never the less with the 10 EUR audio extractor I got from eBay there are no HDCP issues related to ChromeCast.
It might strip HDCP as part of the processing.
