Hi

I am trying to hook up my Beolab 3500 as a stand alone unit for iPod.

Is it possible to use a beolink video mk 2 converter to get master link to din for aux? Looks very similar to the 1614 converters but I am b&o connecting novice...

Thanks for assistance!

First post so apologies if in wrong forum.

Thanks

Hi,

you have to use a Beolink Converter type 1611. This gives you the necessary 'Audio Master' on the Masterlink Bus, if no other Audio System is connected to.

Connect your iPod with a headphone plug / DIN cable (best choice to buy is soundsheavenly who is a sponsor of this site) to the Audio AUX Link connector of the Beolink converter 1611. With the Beolink 1000 / Beo4 /5 /6 you activate a videosource (TV, SAT, DTV, V-Tape,DVD....) and the converter puts the signal from its AUX Link onto the Masterlink Bus and the Beolab 3500 give you the sound Smile

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the late reply, but I'm pleased to confirm that it is now possible to connect an iPod, iPhone, non-B&O TV or any device with a headphone socket directly to a Beolab 3500 mk.2 (Type numbers 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1605, 1607, 1608 from serial no. 19343452) by selecting test mode 4 from a B&O remote.

This opens the Powerlink port and allows any device (eg. non-B&O TV, iPod, Beosound, etc) to play through the 3500 with this cable:-

A B&O remote (either Beo4 or Beolink 1000) is needed to set the speaker to Powerlink mode each time it is switched on (by pressing MENU MENU 0 4 GO on a Beo4 or MENU MENU 0 4 PLAY on a Beolink 1000) and volume control is then managed from the connected device (eg. TV, iPod, etc).  To turn off the speaker, press the “Power Off” button on the remote as usual.

This setup works with all mk.2 Beolab 3500s, ie. Type numbers 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1605, 1607, 1608 from serial no. 19343452.
I'm still working on a solution for Beolab 3500 mk.1 and LCS9000, expect an update soon!
Kind regards, Steve.

Steve.

Hi,

Just a quick update to confirm that we can now get ANY Beolab 3500 or LCS9000 speaker working with ANY audio source via a simple cable connection.  You can see full details at the link in my post above, or feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Kind regards, Steve.

I'm happyto confirm Steves's statement. I ordered a MK1 cable from his shop - connect my phone/player with  this cable to my Beolab 3500 - et voila: it works perfect - thanks Steve Smile

I have a bang olufsen beolab3500 mk1 and I do not own another bang olufsen system, just the Beo4 remote control.

I bought a cable from Sounds Heavenly p2 / din to use the mcl connection. I made the configuration with the Beo4 menu, 0, 4 ok and I hear the electronic relay dock, but no sound comes out.

Can you help me with this problem?

maybe the safe mode or somenthing, because mcl sel appear at display

Hi Marco,

Thanks for your purchase, I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems.  If the speaker shows "MCL SEL" in the display and this stays on the display, then the speaker is set up correctly.  Please can you double-check that the cable you received his 7 pins in the DIN plug - if not, then you have the wrong cable, so please contact me directly via my website so that we can resolve this for you.

Please ensure that the music player is connected using the headphone socket (you can test that this gives sound by plugging in a pair of headphones) and then please slowly turn up the volume until sound is heard through the speaker.

Please ask if you need any further help.

Kind regards, Steve.

Hi Steve

Can you please advise what is the maximum advisory length for this cable?

I am placing quite a few 3500s around the house.

I was thinking of running this extra wire back to the server room.

OR

Wire it to discrete local connections on wall plates.

I could then plug a phone in directly or have some streaming device with 3.5mm output plugged in...

Regards

Hi Kiran,

I would usually suggest 20m as the maximum length to maintain optimum sound quality, but there are a few options if you need to extend further than this.  Please feel free to get in touch directly via my sponsor link below and I will be pleased to help.

Kind regards, Steve.
