Hi everyone, I had a pair of Beolab 4000's back at the office which I took home tonight, connected them to my Ouverture and only one of them works.

I have swapped them over to check cables, and all the obvious things to check, but sadly the RED light on one of these speakers will not turn to GREEN

I have a feeling I need someone to look at it, but what are the usual suspects for a 4000 to stop working like that, I was very careful transporting them in the car back home, they have been working perfectly well on wall brackets at the office for 10 years, do they suffer from bad capacitors, or something simple that needs to be replaced every 10 years or so, could it be PSU, how can I double check a few things first before I find a qualified B&O technician to diagnose the problem further for me ???

Maybe a crazy suggestion but the BL 4000s LED/lights are also a power on/off switch, you might have pushed it in during the move, might be worth checking

Not a crazy suggestion, its the first thing to try, The on/off switch will show no lights if off,

I had the same failure on my 4000 it turned out to be the fuse/s on the standby PCB, I changes the fuses and it played for some hours and then went totally dead, the fuses was blown again and the transformer for the stand by circuit had a broken (open circuit) coil.

To get at the fuses you will have to open the BL 4000

when you say it went totally dead - did that mean no LED light came on at all  ( Red or Green ) ??

my LED just stays on RED all the time  ( the other speaker is fine )

did your LED stay on RED until you fixed the open circuit / broken coil ??

I suppose I will have to bite the bullet and order the part - do you know the part number of the coil please ?

First time it was as yours, stayed on red, I then opened the speaker and changed the fuses, F3,F4. If you have a 220V version, you will only have 1 fuse F5,.

After changing the fuses the speaker worked for a total of 5-6 hours and then went totally dead, no light. I opened the speaker, measured the components on PCB1, and found the 1T1 had a coil with open circuit.

The red light may have other reasons, but first time I opened the speaker the only failure I found was a bad fuse.

The B&O Dealer in Mexico city, do not sell spare parts, they sell equipment as they told me, so I still do not have a new 1T1

Fuse F5 is T63mA, 250V, spare # 6600113, 1T1 spare # 8013582

my lovely dealer got back to with the price ( only £25 ) and the fact that the part number has changed from 8013582 to 8013021

New Part Number =     8013021  Trafo StByBeoLab 4000 230V/115V EUR/US

hopefully that will cure the problem, it seems this happens when the 4000 has not been used for 12 months or so, the Trafo stops working properly, it is nothing to do with fuses.

Thank you for the update, Steve (Stonk) just ordered one for me, he will, because of the high shipping costs, send it to my sister in DK, one of my friends will bring it from DK to Mex. after Xmas

Changed the Standby transformer today, PIB, the lacquer and or isolation material had run out and the transformer was like welded to the PCB, after desoldering, using pump and a lot of Solderwick, I had to go in with a small cutter blade and little by little cut the transformer loose, took me about 1 hour.

PCB nearly clean

New and old

As I have the other one, still in original condition, I can compare, and there is no difference in the sound, there should not be as I only changed the standby transformer.

Great that you got it sorted. Smile

Hello all,

I have exactly the same problem with my black Beolab 4000 Mk. 1.

Unfortunately, the local B&O dealers refuse to sell me the transformers as parts. Does anyone has an idea where I could buy two transformers?

Many thanks for your help!

Best regards from Lake Constance,

Robert

Authorized repair centers often sell parts as well.

Hi S0ren, Are you able to advise where you were able to purchase the Transformers from?  I seem to be having a similar issue with my Beolab 4000s also.

Stonk on this forum helped me to get the original part, but make sure that this is what you need, it can be something simple as a fuse

Thanks very much S0ren.  The problem I have is that sometimes one of my speakers goes off momentarily (no sound plays and the LED goes orange) and then comes back on.  It doesn't happen often, maybe once every 20 minutes and when it goes off, it only stays off for a few seconds before coming back on again.  I don't think it is a fuse as I would expect that a fuse would stay off.  What do you think?  Anyone else know what these symptoms represent?

Hi there.

No, I have not yet got my one fixed.  I ended up buying a second hand speaker, which supposedly worked, and was going to gut out the components and put them in my one.  But when I received delivery of the speaker, it wouldn't power up at all.  Have since taken it back to they seller and he is looking into it for me.

Will let you know how I go.

Mario.

Cheers from Milano.

one of my beolab4000 stopped working last week.

The problem is even if it is connected it remains in standby (the red indicator light does not turn on green)

The cables are working (tried with the other speaker and they are ok)

I think that it has the same problem indicated here by overture, so I wonder if someone can kindly suggest me where can I find the spare part mentioned in this post. (in the photographs)

I have soldering skills & can replace the damaged part but I have no knowledge of electronics.

I am planning to take-out and put the new spare part by soldering it.

thanks in advance for the indications.

(If necessary I can post the images as well)
