I just acquired a Beogram 2400 (flat front, controls under dust cover) and there appear to be several related, if not one large, issue(s) regarding starting record playback. When I press the 33 button, the platter spins, the tonearm drags itself across the aluminum plate, hits the edge of the platter and stays there. If I set the tracking force to 0 and float the tonearm, it goes to the edge of a record normally, then goes right back to resting position. Pause stops the motor, but doesn't lift the tonearm from the record. "Stop" drags the stylus across the record and doesn't let the stylus stay off the aluminum plinth when playback has stopped.
Summing up: Tonearm doesn't lift, "33" doesn't let the tonearm stay at the record's edge, just returns to rest position. Drags stylus back over record when playback is finished. Any recommendations/suggestions on what to do?
I looked around for the threads regarding tonearm lubrication but I can't seem to find anything.
I took a look inside from underneath and noticed under the controls/speed wheel, there was a plastic loop with teeth on it. What is it, and what won't work now that it is no longer intact or in the turntable?
Any and all input is appreciated. This is my first Beogram, and I'd just like it to work properly instead of looking pretty on my shelf. Thanks!
Upon reading some other posts, the tonearm returning to resting position is just anti-skating. Any suggestions on lubrication points for the lift mechanism? Photos would be great. Thanks!
It's the tonearm lifting mech that has seized up in dry lubricants. We've had this issue many times and I remember posting a photo too. Do a search in the archivedsection and hope the info (and maybe photo) is still there.

Well, sunday morning, family still sleeping, I did this:
You need to lubricate this joint. The trouble part is the brass rod (the one with the pin through it) seizing inside thebrass tube it sits in.When free to move, it will slide up and down apprx 2mm.
Place a drop of acid free oil on the joint, leave it to soak overnight. You can work it gently with pliers to speed up the freeing but be careful! When free, add another drop for good measure and you're done.
Photo shows Beogram 1102 but it's basically the same mech as yours.
What is the best acid free line to use?
What is the best acid free Oil to use ?
I use this one but sewing machine oil will also do
