Hello,

I would be most grateful if someone could direct me to the differences in specification between the Mk I, MkII and MkIII version of the above Beovision 7, 32 inch LCD screen (UK market). (This is with the view to purchase a 2nd hand screen for connecting to active loudspeakers, i.e. the main concern is the quality of the picture). Thank you kindly.

Sadly I don't know the differences.

I do know that a MKI BV7-32 was my first B&O TV and that was back in....December 2003. A long long time in LCD panels (nearly 10 years!). I can't emphasise that enough. My MKI panel was very dark. Some movies were unwatchable. It also had a single DVI socket (no HDMI) and required an additional "HD conversion" module to watch content via my Sky box.

I'd strongly advise against going anywhere near a MKI BV7-32. Make sure any BV7-32 you buy has HDMI sockets.

Unfortunately they are very rare. DVI really has made a large swathe of 7-32/40 and 5's very inflexible when using today's appliances.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Mk1 - First version. DVI input, but no scaler fitted - so you could use it as a computer monitor, but not much else.  Image quality is poor by todays standards.

Mk2 - Scaler fitted, so you could watch HD Freeview/Sky using the DVI input.

Mk3 - Hugely improved contrast ratio, much nicer picture. This, in my opinion, is the minimum standard. Freeview (SD) was an option.

Mk4 - Came with DVBT Freeview (standard definition) as standard. Improved screen.

Mk5 - Came with DVBT and 2 x HDMI Sockets. Improved screen.

Personally, I'd swerve the Mk1 and Mk2 unless you're on a very tight budget and just want a BV7 for the sake of having one.

There are lots of other differences I haven't pointed out, for the sake of keeping it simple - but there are Mk3 onward versions which don't have a DVD drive for instance.

It's also to be noted that right from Mk1 to Mk5, they were all 720p - not 1080p. This is a common misconception..

Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your time and detailed experience of and information on the BV7 which has been most useful in my purchasing deliberations, a MkIII onwards it is.

Cheers,

Per
