So the Beocord does power up and the display shows it is alive.  When you try to make the cassette do something (play, rewind, fast forward), do you get hear the solenoids try to engage? Or do you get zero movement of anything?  Is the main belt on the flywheel turning?  Are you sure you have the connectors re-connected good (from the cassette assembly to the circuit boards? If the cassette mechanics don't even try to engage, then it would likely be an electrical problem from the boards to the cassette assembly. In that case, check the solder joints on the board connectors that go to the cassette assembly. If you see the mechanics try to do something, then it would likely be something didn't get assembled correctly. Did you make sure the arms with the pads got into place correctly on the reels?

The solenoids  engage, the connectors are properly re-connected, there was some activity of the main belt, a little fast forward; all this before I lfted the mechanism and  the fuse, next to the mechanism, blew!! I have to get hold of a new one somewhere.

To be continued.

Thank you so far.

I have worked on mine with the cover open and the cassette assembly lifted up.  When I do that I put in a rubber mat between the cassette assembly and the circuit boards below. Then you just have to be very careful lifting or moving the cassette assembly when it is running.  Make sure you always unplug the deck when moving your test position around.

It sounds like the electronics might be okay and the problem is still mechanical. Hang in there.

I give it another try:
Being a member of the Dutch B&O club, BEOFRIENDS, vintage B&O lovers, I attended, some time ago, a "Vintage-B&O-devices-repair session" conducted by veteran B&O engineers and I took my BC8002 with me.
After carefully disassembling, cleaning, lubricating, reassembling and remounting  the cassette assembly by an expert there still remained silence when we tried the thing to get working

So I looks all together as if there is something wrong with the electronics; meanwhile  I switched assemblies from a couple of other, "donor",-  60XX/800x''s devices, same outcome

Different approach?

(It took "a while" to get back with this post: I finally have overcome my frustation)

Will the tape run mechanically fine in Play, >> and >> (with no sound output) ?

The only sound when pressing those keys (Play, >> and >> ) is a mechanical click producedby the head section moving back and forth.
'Play' effects the biggest movement.

Display shows alternating Ɔ000 and C000.
(I now use a cassette with protection tab intact!)

(It seems I messed up this thread a little: my post on several places)

Is the record/playback relay good?
Check the connector from the tapeheads, it will sometimes fit nicely a pin or two offset unnoticed
- and check its solder joints.
Replace the two large capacitors near the tapehead connector if present in your deck (1000uF, I think they are).

Starting with the caps: do you mean these?

Connector tapeheads OK.

Relay and solder joints: work in progress

Yes, 470uF in your deck, it seems.

Despite searching the forums and asking around I was not given a solution to my painstaking problem of the mechanism not doing what I wanted it to do; meanwhile I managed with some help from others to take all the pieces apart and clean and lubricate them: this would solve the problem!
When everything had been replaced and the Play, FF and Rewind pressed:  SOB!
In order to happily terminate my part in this thread I have good news: during the recent "Technical Repair" session organised by our B&O-Lovers-club in Holland ("BangLyde") Our skilled technician Andre noticed a missing inimini tiny part: an e-ring; see picture.
On a donor mechanism I found such a ring: when put in place: guess what: my BC 8002 got revived!!!!!.
Lesson: every tiny part counts, never loose them.
