Well I went out and got a BeoPlay S8 to try and simplify my set up (removing a preamp/DAC) however unless I am doing something wrong the volume control does nothing!

I did go through the remote IR set up as written in the manual (ending on solid white indication). However the only command that it seems to actually work is mute. Volume up or most importantly down seem to have zero affect and everything plays at full volume. I tried two different remotes and many button combinations.

It is supposed to accept volume up, down and mute which is totally fine but I cannot seem to get it to work.

Now I am connecting via rj45 > PL a Bl2 & BL8000s if that makes a difference. Triggering seems working however this thing is useless now.

What am I doing wrong?

Guys my bad, it's working.Embarrassed

Apparently there is a fixed volume mode which I had by accident or something default.

FYI, you need to press the mode button twice in quick succession. Then the LED goes from solid red to white. As I see it solid red mode is on but fixed volume mode. Solid white is on with variable volume mode.

So yes I can confirm that the BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub does indeed accept toslink, have volume adjustment and works fine with older powerlink even ones that use triggering. Of course once adapted.

EDIT:

Yes it does have a timeout though I didn't time it, something like 30mins best guess.

Hi, I am experiencing a problem with the S8 connection hub "learning" the LG Magic Remote on my LG OLED55B6P.  I am able to program the remote when the TV is off, however as soon as I turn on the TV the connection hub no longer recognizes the remote.  I have a simple setup.  Toslink digital out to connection hub to Beoplay S8.

I think the issue is the TV/remote control software.  As soon as I turn the TV on, it's almost as if the TV overrides the connection between the S8 and the magic remote.

The TV allows the LG Magic Remote to be programmed to control external devises, and when I go to digital audio out devices it lists out dozens of manufacturers but not B&O.  There doesn't seem to be a way for the LG Magic Remote to learn/connect with the S8 connection hub through the TV.

Anyone experience this problem?  I'm looking for a simple solution and don't wish to add any additional A/V components to make this work...however if that's the only way I'm open to suggestions - space is limited and that's why I'm trying to avoid having to add additional devices.

Your set is a bit newer than mine however is probably more or less same.

Yes what I did was the connection set up on the LG, selected optical out, selected Yamaha receiver (just to get any IR commands), then went through the pairing on the B&O S8. Now I did so with the tele switched on because I think the "magic remote" only outputs those IR commands when the tele is on. When it's off I cannot control the S8 anymore. Not that big a deal as the set is normally on if I wish to hear from the front room system.

I suspect when switched on the magic remote does indeed output the brand's IR commands, when the set is off, some sort of default (and different) commands are being issued. Why LG did that I have no idea, also I can be reasonably sure it's outputting IR from the remote itself as when I point it to my iPhone camera, I see telltale violet IR blinks on the iPhone camera display.

So try doing the LG connection set up for the remote and relearning the commands on S8 with the LG tele switched on.

Without buying something like an Logitech harmony this set up so far works.

Thank you for the suggestion.  I tried all the steps you indicated.  On the LG OLED55B6P tv I selected setup universal control, then selected "soundbar" and selected Yahama and based on the on-screen icons the remote control setup works.  I then paired with the B&O S8 connection hub while the tv was on.  This pairing was a big hassle...it would take me 10-20 clicks before the connection hub would register the command: volume up, then volume down then mute.  I get the green indicator light and at the end the light turns white indicating done. (note when the TV is off and I initially attempted to program the connection hub the pairing works smoothly and I can confirm that it works - my issue is not with the S8 hardware and pairing process)

However it still does not pick up my remote control commands when the TV is on.  I do have a newer TV than you; I wonder if either the magic remote was changed or if this is a software issue with my LG tv that simply does not allow it to talk to the connection hub to control volume/mute.

I am a novice and don't want an intricate A/V setup - I would explore getting a Logitech harmony remote but does anyone have any experience and knows that it will seamlessly control both the LG OLED55B6P and the S8 connection hub?

Best thing I can suggest is try using another IR remote, any remote. From what you're describing I think the pairing is not correct (same button command over) or the IR commands from the remote are invalid / unreadable.

I tried an old Samsung IR remote, paired just fine and actually works better than LG magic remote. Where even though in my case it works but I still have to press and hold the desired action for 1-2 secs before it does anything. Without spending any cash, raid your junk drawer and find any IR remote before committing to a true universal remote.

My case I had the vol up, vol down and ch up (for mute) buttons programmed on the S8. I never use mute so I just used any available IR command to satisfy the S8 three commands.

Seems the 'universal' IR that LG did for the magic remote is quite poor.

Thanks for the advice.  I went with that direction - I found an old Sony simple remote control and it paired easily.  I contacted both LG and B&O:  LG was of no help.  B&O seemed to think there might be some bluetooth commands at play along with IR...they say they are working on adding Bluetooth pairing in future models.  That will solve more problems and make the S8 a more viable alternative than all the soundbars out there.

Again, thanks for the advice.  I don't mind having a small extra control for volume up/down & mute.  I can now enjoy this LG OLED with quality sound!

Yes exactly the same problem on my LG. I have no programmed by AppleTV second gen remote control to the hub and that is working like a dream.
