I've just got hold of a really nice pair of Penta 2's, unfortunately only one display is working. I've swapped the displays over so I know the problem is not in the actual display. The connection on the bottom of the speaker seems fine. Has anyone else had an issue where the display was not actually faulty?

Have you measured if the display module in the dark tower is receiving power? There is very little else that can be wrong if you have already confirmed that the actual module is fine.

Problem solved! After dismantling the speakers and swapping the amplifiers over I worked out the fault was definitely in on of the amps. First of all this was bad news as I thought it might have been beyond my technical abilities but I opened up the offending amp anyway and discovered this.

A nice obvious loose wire which is to do with the displays. I love it when repairs are simple. A quick bit of solder and low and behold,

Now all I've got to do is put them back together and give them a clean.

Well done! I believe the loose wire was exactly the supply feed for the display, if that was the smaller standby transformer in your picture. That winding isn't used for anything else, so the rest of the amp worked just fine with that disconnected wire.

Yes that's all correct. I now listening to "Life's been Good" by Joe Walsh before I start cleaning them. Life is good when you have free and easy fixes!
