Ok.  I've gone and purchased an Avant 55.

I have also purchased the new clamper system from STB Brackets, so hopefully that will arrive before the TV.

I'm using the Avant as a 3.1 with my BL3s as rears.

I was considering using the BL18s as rears, but I am more than happy with the BL3s and considering that I have not been using them... it sort of makes sense.

I will be using the Installation company to hook up my Foxtel, PS4 as my Blu Ray player and an Apple TV which I will have on the clamper system instead of inside the TV - in case something goes wrong with it, i think it will be easier than dismantling the TV if it's in the hidey hole.

This will be my first BV.  BV's haven't made sense to me in the past, but this Avant does.

I'm having a glass of Sparkling in celebration.

PS.  My back room where the Avant is going is too small for a BL19 or additional front speakers.

Good to hear Michael and that will be a great set up for you. Wise decision to keep the lab3's as rears. Shame you couldn't squeeze the lab19 in 😀

Thanks guys Big Smile

Elephant actually I'm hiccuping now lol so funny you should write that.

This afternoon prior to purchase I tried out my ripped DVDs and also a ripped bluray of the hunger games which was better than I thought

I ripped it on my MacBook with a buffalo Blu Ray drive using MAKEMKV. It's excellent.

Congratulations Michael!  I took the plunge as well and have had mine in place for 2 weeks now.  I love it but there are a few issues I still have to get sorted out that I will be speaking to James(Richmond) and Graham Donald about.  Give me a ring (Ed has my number) and I will discuss them with you.  With some extensive rewiring under the house plus a few equipment problems, it took two full days to put it in and Graham still has to come back to finish the job.  That said, the tv is superb although I am not quite so discerning as many members of this site are when comparing issues such as picture quality etc with other products!!

Thanks Clifft for your post.

Glad to see you love it and hope your issues are solved.  Happy to chat on the phone.  I'll send you a PM for your number.

Sounds like you have a big set up if it required rewiring etc.

I agree with you re PQ - there was not much between the Sony and the B&O, but the Sony didn't have some of the features of the B&O such as surround processing in built, controllable from the one remote (besides the PS4), motorised stand.  The Sony was giving away 5 4K movies which would have been good.

Hopefully speak with you soon

Cheers

Michael.

@Michael - sorry for missing one of your emails - I have just replied

@Cliff - I am glad to hear that it arrived and is in situ and almost 100% operational - I just checked for any emails from you - none, so thankfully my absence has not impacted the installation !

I wonder if Andrew is now having third thoughts :-)

Well done for your first Beovision. Many years of pleasure to come...

If you get a PS3 instead of a PS4 you can control it with remote (via RE-BL X for approx. 70 €).

Both the 85" and Avant 55" are proving to be excellent sellers - stunning pictures with sound to match - enjoy your first venture into BeoVision ownership!

Thanks guys, yeah i hope it will be good too.

I did have 2 PS3s but sold them before my PS4 came in to my ownership.

I don't mind using the game controller for it, so it's fine.

Now i'm fantasising about a BV for the bedroom - but then I think no.  There are no catch up services - and thats the one place I use them.  This could be a wake up call (pardon the pun) for B&O to get their HBBTV platform in line with Aussie standards.

Michael, I have HBBTV services on my V1-40, and they work perfectly with the new Freeview 'plus' features as regards catch up services such as ABC, SBS, etc.  You can block the service on a per. channel basis if you wish.

I assume of course, this is what you meant by 'catch up services'?

Congrats again on deciding to go with a new Beovision.. Smile

Kind regards

John...

Ok.  My 3 brackets arrived from STB Brackets today - not sure how they actually fit together?

Anyway, they look good, nice quality.  One had a little dent, but its so minor its not worth complaining about as you're not going to see it.

I have the C3 clamp with the provision for a large decoder, PS4 and Apple TV.

Can't wait now!

The Sony is going to my Dad, and I'm sure he will love having access to HD channels now lol. :-)

It was a lovely Spring day here in Melbourne as the word had got around that the Colt of Old Melbourne had got out

Delivery was set for 930 and promptly arrived at 815 and he was happy to wait until the guys were set to arrive at 830.

I helped lift the first palette and then thought, oh no, I'll wait for the guys.

I had prepared the area and removed all furniture from the room so there was ample room to set up. Lucky my couch was back at the manufacturer getting a repair lol.

We requested the TV to be setup, and the rear BL3s to be set up with wireless receivers, speaker groups to be set up, etc

This was the first Avant this installer set up but has done other B&O stuff before.  But they don't assemble the TV like i saw on that youtube clip where they use the packaging the support the base install first etc, and no white gloves lol.

Upon unpacking the screen and installing it on the stand the guys call me over to have a look and there is a little piece of something under the glass in the top left hand corner.  This looks like packing material.  They asked me what I would like to do and of course I don't really know, so I said continue and i'll work it out with the dealer when they call in the afternoon.  How it got there who knows and to be honest I don't really know what it is.  Sort of looks like a fibre of some sort.  I spoke with the dealer and they will arrange service to come take a look at it for me.  They will likely remove the glass and blow out what's there.

They were hear from 830ish to just after 2pm.

As i was working I didn't have time to play with it until after work and have watched a movie and listened to Alicia Keys via my NAS.

They didn't set up my NAS as it wasn't powered on at the time as I moved it.  However, I just plugged it in and the TV picked it up straight away - no need to worry about setting it up, as it just finds it.

The new brackets I ordered from STB are marvellous I am so glad I went down that path in lieu of cabinetry on the side.  I have Foxtel, Apple TV and PS4.  I opted for the Apple TV to be mounted externally incase something goes wrong with it, and I will swap the Foxtel and the Apple TV position on the brackets now that I see it in situ.

The one remote control is good and although the BeoOne doesn't control the PS4 that's ok by me as I'll be using it for Games anyway and blu ray movies.  I spent last week ripping many blu rays on a Seagate HDD, which I played tonight.  I ripped the BluRays in MKV and they work flawlessly.

The Avant is connected to ethernet via power over ethernet and it's quick, and my PS4 and Apple TV are connected via wifi with a time capsule in another room (which is also fed by power over ethernet).

Apart from the little fibre the only thing i don't like is the way the cables come together on a power board on the floor.  I appreciate that this is practical and you need power lol, so I will have to think of a way to hide the power board.. i'll have to jimmy up something stylish.  And I would appreciate the remote to have a backlight keys, but that's not a big thing, but it would be a little bit handy.

With the BeoOne remote, is there a way to re-arrange the order of the inputs in the TV menu.  At the moment it has TV then home media then web media, but i would like my Foxtel input to be the second choice?

The TV is good.  Picture Quality and Sound.  So at this stage, i feel happy that I went with a BV.  What makes it is the motorised stand and the remote control that controls virtually everything.

Foxtel is easy to use and all of the commands work properly, like "guide" picks up the guide, now how to work out if i turn the tv off on stand by does that also put the peripherals also on stand by?

These are just my first impressions, I'll post more and some pictures .  I did try and upload pictures on the mobile app, but i haven't been able to do that for weeks now.  So i'll have to go back to the tried and true method (the long way) lol.

Do you mean the devices are powered through the internet cable ? (POE)

Or did you mean your IP signals are broadcast over your power cables ?  I always wondered whether that produced clean signals.

This technolgy is called 'Powerline':

'Powerline (also known as HomePlug) is a networking technology that uses your home’s existing power cables to distribute the network throughout your home.'

It is ripe and reliable nowadays.

Is recommended by B&O for use when the wifi is not strong enough and it is too difficult to have CAT cables installed.

The current versions of Powerline allow for far greater transfer rates than wifi.

And yes - POE is another cup of tea!

The Essence of B&O is discretion in design and life

Yes the IP is done over your copper electrical network as opposed to the other copper. It's very clean and fast. I love it
