Hi all,

Having a bit of a strange problem with my BeoSystem. When using PowerLink speaker outputs, the left audio channel works fine but the right outputs loud popping noises when the Hi-Fi is turned off, muted/unmuted etc and has loud static noise when playing any audio. I’ve tried swapping cables around and using different speakers so it’s definitely the output that’s broken.

Strangely, the headphone output works perfectly for both channels. Just powerlink out that doesn’t work properly.

I’ve taken the Hi-Fi apart and everything looks okay (no snapped/fraying cables or crumbling solder etc. Anybody have any rough ideas what the problem might be/ideas about things I should look out for if I take it apart again?

I've never come across this problem with the Beocenter 2500 and derivatives, but it's quite common with any of the active speakers, due to noisy amplifier chips etc therein.

The signal path is common to both powerlink and headphones outlets,in fact the powerlink signal is extracted before the headphone amplifier.

It's possible that the powerlink socket is dry jointed or oxidised.Try resoldering the connections, and 'praps a LITTLE contact cleaner inside the socket too?

The 'speakers can also  both be connected via one powerlink socket,by "daisy chain" connecting them in series.Try this to see if it makes any difference?

Nick
