Hi All,

I'm new here, having just today bought a lovely pair of Beolab 18 (Maple Frets...), and a 'Moment'.  I have the speakers here, but must wait a week or two for the 'Moment' to arrive.  I  no longer have any other B&O equipment, but I do have various Audio and AV Amps with CD players, turntables, iPods/iPads, Airport Expresses etc, and many cables collected over the years.

Although the speakers will be used wirelessly with the 'Moment' when it eventually arrives, I was wondering if there was any way that I could use what I have in the meantime via the phono-plugs on the Beolab 18?

For example, I have an old Cambridge Audio A1 amp/CD combo - could I just take a phono plug-terminated cable out of the Amp's speaker connectors into the 18's to play some CDs?... Or should I just wait for the 'Moment' to come!  I'm aware that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and I really don't want to blow my new 'babies' through impatience/ignorance...

With Regards,

Any source with a volume control will be fine, when i had my beolab 17s i ran them via rca cable.

I set one speaker to left and the other to right via the switch on the speakers. I then connected them to the source I was using them with and when they detected a signal they switched on.

Thank you Markiedee,

I'm sorry if I was mixing up my terminologies re. phono plugs/RCA cable; I'm a little rusty with my cabling names, but I know exactly what you mean. You've given me some confidence to give it a try over the next day or so...

Regards.

Hi,

Don't connect the speaker outputs of the A1 to the beolabs. You WILL overload them! The inputs on the BL18s are line level not speaker level. What you could do is connect the A1 to the BL18s using a pair of phono cables plugged into the tape out on the A1.

But seen as you have an airport express I would use a 3.5mm stereo jack to 2x phono cable and plug the express directly into the 18s. That way you can stream music from your computer iPhone etc.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for the advice; I've was trying to get my head around the idea of plugging one amplifier into what is essentially another amplifier, but just didn't know/couldn't remember enough about which outputs on the A1 were 'line-level'.

Luckily I have a stereo jack with 2 x phono available, so I'll try your suggestion with the Airport Express - that should do me until my 'Moment' arrives...

Kind Regards.
