I have a Beocenter 7002 similar age to your set, my energy saving bulbs send enough interference to switch set on or off. This usually happens < 2 minutes after lights are switched on. Different signals as the bulbs age, often just the "wait" light flashes, Of course it is possible there may be other faults in the set or remote control to cause this.

Had the same problem a few years ago - my BM8000 would simply switch on for no apparent reason. In my case it turned out to be a problem with the remote. Removed the battery from the remote and the problem stopped.
I found that the battery voltage was low, so I cleaned the terminals and put in a new battery - problem disappeared. Now I always remove the battery from the remote when I don't intend using it for a long time.
Check to see if this solution works for you

Could be an unstabile 5V supply to the processor. There is a capacitor fitted to the 5V regulator on the small right side cooling fin, 10uF or so, I've seen thislittle component cause many different issues.
Martin
Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply. The 10uF cap was replaced recently so I don't think its that... Any more suggestions?
I had the same issue a few months ago before I'd finished my restoration, never found the exact cause but after I changed the regulator and cap, also under the cpu can resoldered most connections, changed cap and made recommended bridges it seemed to resolve it, although if I remember right I was in there to try and solve an intermitent tuner issue where it would stick on auto tuning( but fine on manual ) . Never did resolve that and still remains a mystery but it's never turned itself on since.
i think the bm8000 really wanted a timer fitted😂
I think I'd added a 100nf ceramic cap and changed the regulator 6 ic4 just to be sure instead of just replacing the cap like for like

Nf not uf
its in addition
I'll send the 100nf with your cable
Good afternoon,
I remember a long time ago somebody who reported the same problem in a forum (perhaps not even in Beoworld) .
He solved it by covering the IR receiver of his BM 8000 with black tape when it was not in use. The possible source of the problem was that something in the house produced the IR pattern that turns the BM8000 on (fluorescent light, other remote, etc). Apparently, the IR codes used by the BM 8000 are simple to the point that other equipment in the house could produce them accidentally. IR remote control systems were in their beginning when the BM 8000 was designed.
Hoping that this will help.
Regards,
Jean
Have you fitted the 100nf ?
In the meantime I guess you could store the volume setting at zero so your not scared out of your wits if it turns itself on in the middle of the night 😉
Disconnect all Beocord/Beogram (all datalink products) and try again.
Was p9 the last station you'd been listening to?
have you trying disconnecting the keyboard?
Hi Jason,
No the last station I was listening to was P1...
I haven't tried that yet... I will now though :-)
Sorry to hear that lee,
I take it though that it has happened less since the added cap ?
Yes its the first time it's done it in 2-3 weeks. Wonder if those big caps on the PSU board need changing....
Did you fit 100nF or 100uF ?
My bad Martin, I meant I've fitted a 100nF cap that Jason kindly sent me.
Sorry I can't be more help, mine had stopped turning itself on after I added the ceramic 100nf cap and resoldered points and made bridges on the cpu board.
id already replaced the large power supply caps
hope this is useful
Thanks for all your help Jason, I'm sure it will be something simple... its just finding it haha
