Hello, I'm new to the forum and seeking advice.

Recently I suffered a flood at home and my Beovision 7-40 was a victim. The Beovision 7 range is no longer available so I am getting together a like-for-like replacement for my insurance claim. I've been in touch with my local B&O dealer and a Beovision Avant 55 is proposed along with a motorized floor stand. The Beovision Avant lacks the integrated DVD player that the Beovision 7-40 had. I have searched but there are a bewildering number of 4K DVD players available.

So, my question is does anybody have a suggestion for a compatible Blu-Ray DVD player that would work with the Avant? The problem is that any player must work in a vertical position to fit in the cradle/bracket attached to the rear of the Beovision Avant to sit alongside my cable box.

Thanks.

Edit. I should have written 'up-scaling' rather than native 4K Blu-Ray player. I'm trying to replicate the functionality of my damaged Beovision 7-40 with available equipment.

I've no idea about the UHD blue ray players, other than there are currently just a handful of models out there. Stuff, what hifi are just a couple of sites that have done reviews.

If you get an Avant, wait just a few more months for the new version at all costs.Yes - thumbs up

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I know only of two UHD/BluRay players - the Samsung and the Panasonic.

None of these can be mounted like you want it.

There are tons of 'ordinary' BluRay players on the market nowadays.

A couple of years ago some of these could be used vertical - I don't know of any at the moment.

Looking for a second hand player might be the solution.

Something like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-BP730-Upscaling-Blu-ray-Player/dp/B00BD7UVHG?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

Search for slot loading BluRay players.

Hi Mike,

Sorry to hear of your flood - I hope everything else is ok as well as you.

I was having the same dilemma so I noticed on the STB Brackets website they sell a bracket and a BluRay player (I'm not sure if it is 4K) which I purchased from them. It sits on the back of the avant up the top and is a very neat solution. This is a slot loading player as opposed to a tray loading.

Once there is more 4K availability of blu ray disks I'll see what my options are at that point in time. Which will probably be upgrading my PS4

If you have been proposed the STB brackets clamp solution for the rear of your Avant for other peripherals, I would still use the separate blu Ray bracket they sell with the blu ray player as this is mounted right up the top and it it is easy to load in discs.

The other benefits of this player is that the picture and sound is muted until the movie starts - it's quite "neat"

Let me know if you want me to send a picture.

Cheers,

@Aussie Michael

I did not know, that you can (still) buy the Toshiba player from STB Brackets.

I thought, that they only sell (the) brackets.

Can you confirm that?

It would be great news, since these players are practically out of stock elsewhere.

Thanks, Chris.

I only have limited online access at present but what little I can find about a new Avant suggests that it will have a woody finish and Android TV over and above the current model.

I'm really just trying to replicate the function of my ruined Beovision 7-40 which I loved.

Thanks, Millemissen.

It's proving difficult to find anything suitable. It might come down to finding a second-hand player.

Thanks, Aussie Michael.

Only 'things' lost in the flood, thanks. Unpleasant as everything is I am insured and they can be replaced.

I searched the STB Brackets web site but couldn't find anything - except brackets, obviously.

One suggestion was using a Sony PS3 or PS4 as a Blu-Ray player. Not sure if they can be used vertically but I have seen photos of them in this position. Is that a PS4 I can see at the back of your set in the photos you posted?

I would send STB brackets an email, when ever I have had to deal with them they are prompt and professional. I only have purchased the BR player not that long ago, so they would be able to clear that up if they still have the player. The player is good. I however don't have it plugged in to the HMDI 1 (4K input) yet as that is where I have my FOXTEL plugged in - it won't be difficult to change.

You could definitely use a PS3 or a PS4 as a Blu-Ray player and I have it mounted on the STB clamper system. It is easy to access over the top of an avant 55, I'm not sure how easy it would be on an avant 75 or 85 unless you have long arms or are tall. Whereas the Toshiba BR is easier to access.

One of the main reasons I chose to buy the Toshiba BR over and above the PS4 is so that I could use the BeoRemote One with it, whereas if you go down the PS4 route you have to use the PS4 controller - which is no biggie

By having 2 separate BR products, I can still use the PS4 and remote play in another room if I want to whilst the BR is being used.

On the clamper system I have:

> FOXTEL

> PS4

> Apple TV

I had an issue with my Apple TV the other day where it wouldn't respond to the remote, so I had to plug the power out. It was at that point that I was happy that I decided to mount the ATV on the outside rather than the inside of the Avant.

Thanks Aussie Michael.

I will do as you suggest and email STB Brackets Monday morning. I plan to mount two bits of kit behind the Beovision Avant - my Virgin Media TiVo cable box (my main source) and this elusive BR player. As far as I can make out my options are,

A Toshiba BDX5500 (not currently available)

A Panasonic BBT-01 (not currently available)

A Sony PS3 (not currently available)

A Sony PS4

I'm hoping I can track down a stock clearance or second-hand Toshiba or other from somewhere.

Incidentally, I have noticed that a new Beovision Avant 55, motorized stand and one of these BD players is actually less expensive that my damaged Beovision 7-40, motorized stand and Beolab soundbar was when originally purchased.

Using a PlayStation or Xbox for video is very uneconomical and foremost consumes much energy : Heat : fans spinning. Also bad integration with B&O (no or bad puc).

Note that I have just realised that the Toshiba BluRay is a 4K upscaler and not a 4K BR player. But if you're after a normal BR player then I can vouch for it.

I searched for a Panasonic Blu-Ray player but it seems they all play only in a horizontal position. What I am searching for is a player that operates in an upright position. It seems my options are very limited.

I am searching for a set-up that will duplicate what I had with my flood damaged Beovision 7-40. A 4K up-scaler is acceptable. I have fired off an email to STB about a Toshiba and awaiting a reply.

Certainly it will work fine with OPPO 105, but that would be hard to mount behind the Avant ;-)

By the way - my I ask - why did you choose the 105 instead of the 103?

Thanks for your reply but, excellent player though it looks, I do not believe that it is capable of being mounted behind the Beovision Avant 55 as any player must be upright and slot-loading.

ErikVonAgnar:

I have an Avant 55 paired with the Oppo BDB-105D 4K upscaling.

I also had this setup, but after owning a BV11-46, was really disappointed with the Avant 55 picture and I'm not sure if it will match the BV7-40 for regular TV.

Ditched my Avant 55 and picked up a pre-loved BV12-65 and never looked back! Regular HD TV looks stunning, sport is great and Blu-ray movies are amazing. Not sure I see the need for 4K with this setup.
