Can anyone shed some light on an exasperating fault with this otherwise fine machine please?
It occasionally won't read a disc,eg,machine starts, disc spins, then stops and machine returns to standby.
A couple more tries, and the disc reads and plays ok.Worse with some discs perhaps significantly?
Classic symptoms of a tired laser,or the "usual suspects"(capacitors, dry joints etc)of course, but why intermittent, and play's fine once working too!
All the supplies are ok.Laser current set's up ok(when disc running)
Service mode confirms laser ok too!
Any help appreciated,as teeth marks are appearing along the edge of my workbench!
Regards,
Nick

99% the C2103 cap failure... I never ever do any tests on 3500/4500/5500/6500/7000/8500/9500 cd's without changing C2103 to a 47uF version. This has fixed 95% of reading problems on these units.

Thanks for the replies.
I should have mentioned that I had dealt with "the usual suspects",C2103 being the "prime suspect" of course!
The cd system is clever and complex, with three servo systems all working in concert, particularly at start up,when first reading the disc. It's all a bit too fast to see what's occurring,or not.
Beoworlders input appreciated as ever,thanks
Check the flatcables between the decoderboard and laserunit itself.
You'll find one with a black oxidated end.
