Maybe placebo, but I think the sound on Beosound 1 improved (that also got the firmware). Clearer mid/hi range.
Also on A6 I think the sound changed slightly with more treble. I actually had to turn that down in the app.

The BL3 that are attached to the essence are better
I like that on the essence you can actually select what type of speakers are connected to it.
I also found that by using the Deezer app you can actually select special audio settings and an EQ which made it sound even better
me too realised a slight lack of basses on my A6. i wouldn't give it more bass with the musicplayer's in-app settings for the adverse impacts on the M5 in case of pairing them.
