Hello,
I sent my Beogram 5000 to the Guildford store because there was no sound coming from it. I got a call from one of the engineers to say there wasn't actually anything wrong with it and we just needed to hook it up with a preamp which we didn't have previously. So I've not had a chance to plug it until this weekend and i have the following set up;
Beogram 5000 into a 5 pin to Phono adapter
Phono cables into newly purchased Preamp "input"
Preamp "output" phono into Denon amp phono ports
I have done all this and still there is no sound coming from the speakers but the speakers are active like there's something coming through to them. When i spoke to the engineer he said there was no issue at all with the record player and it was just that we didn't run it thorough a Preamp to the Denon. I'm a bit lost as to what could be the problem, do you have any ideas?
Thanks,
Charlie

Have you tried connecting the phono pre-amp output to one of the inputs on the Denon other than the phono input? If the Denon has a phono input, you wouldn't want to plug the phono pre-amp output into it, as the signal level is going to be too high and you'd be applying the RIAA equalization twice.

You should try another input like CD or Tape or Aux, etc. and see if there's any output.

Does the Denon have any proper output to the speakers with other sources?

Hi Bill

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve tried every port on the Denon and put the amp to AUX and PHONO as well. My record player plugs in and works absolutely fine that’s why im at a bit of a loss. Especially when AV Services called me to say there was nothing wrong at all with it all I was missing was a pre amp.

Sorry if the picture isn’t great I’m doing this off my phone and copy pasting the image but this is

all the inputs on the back of the amp and none work

Hi, nothing was uploaded. I'm sorry that you're having troubles.  If the technician said your BG5000 is good, then there are a couples of things to check. First, there may be a cable problem with the adapter you're using to connect to the preamp.  also, you will need to test some other device in your Denon to make sure it is working correctly.
